I believe that the way that Queenie and her friends hold themselves in the store is what initially appeals to Sammy. The way he describes them is very quirky, as if he has not seen anyone like them before, especially when Queenie comes inside the store and her bathing suit straps are hanging down. I believe that Sammy quits his job because he wants to impress Queenie. He does not think she has done anything wrong, because all she is doing is buying one thing that her mother has asked her to purchase from the A & P. Sammy does regret his decision, because his family needs the money and he has just quit his job to impress a girl he finds pretty.
