A nurse conducts an assessment on a young family with a new baby boy. The husband has recently been promoted to a higher paying position but is not sure if he will be making enough money to move a new apartment in a safer neighborhood. Based on this information, the nurse determines that this family currently has risk factors such as environmental. “Living in high-crime neighborhoods, in communities without adequate recreation or health resources, in communities that have major noise pollution or chemical pollution, or in other high-stress environments increases a family 's health risk” (Stanhope, Marcia, & Lancaster, 2012, p. 633). If there are inadequate health resources or adequate in the communities, this will impose a greater health risk on the community. Also if the individual is poor, there is a greater risk of health problems due to the lack of available resources. The individual tend to have a shorter life span due to not seeking help for their health problems within adequate time. There is a greater risk …show more content…
Multiculturalism practice is done when the nurse provides equal attention or care to the patients of different cultural background. The nurse has to reassess their traditional values or roles in order to respond to the needs of the multiculturalism, while caring for the patient. The nurse has to consider patient’ culture, native language and respect their individual needs in the patient care and treatment. It is the responsibility of the nurse to meet the cultural needs for the patient. Having knowledge of the patient culture is extremely important for the nurse. The lack of knowledge of the patient culture can cause deficit in nursing care and stereotyped attitudes towards the patient. Also the lack of knowledge can result in the nurse providing poor quality nursing care for the patient (KOKKO, 2011, p.
