On Thursday, April 21, 2016, I had the opportunity to job shadow Ms. Tincia, a Nurse Assistant, in the Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU) at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC). TAMC is the largest Military medical treatment facility in the Pacific Basin. It is also a federal tertiary care facility catering towards local active duty and retired military personnel, their families, and veteran beneficiaries. Her stepmother wanted her to become a flight attendant after high school graduation, however, she pursued her education in Virginia and New York to later work in a Hospice as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) where she acquired most of her skills and characteristics as a health care worker. Then, she had the opportunity to work in the Navy for three years but got a divorce, which later led her to volunteer at TAMC and getting a good job there. From there, she decided to pursue higher education by studying to become a Physician Assistant (PA). Ms. Tincia

Tencia has really changed my perspective on health care and really shifted my focus on the career I want to pursue. Being in the ICU is an exhilarating experience, and I can see myself working here because it can be fast paced and even slow paced, however, all the necessary health care workers are all packed into one unit so there is no need to go to other units to carry out a

I believe that it is a demanding task for nurses to maintain an outward look of professionalism in the midst of seeing dying patients. However, this daunting character should not hinder me from delivering quality care that is expected of me.
