Stock Market Experience: My Virtual Stock Exchange Experience

Improved Essays
When I began this project, I had never really paid attention to the stock market or how it worked. As I started to purchase different stocks and obtain a general understanding of how the stock market worked, I became a little intrigued. Playing the stock market is definitely a lot more in depth than buying and selling stock. There is a certain amount of research that should be done before investing in any company. You also need to know when to buy, sell, or hold certain stock. You have to research the companies in which you would like to invest. Research current economic situations. Just because something seems like a sure thing does not mean it will always pay off for you. Just because a stock is up today does not mean it will be up tomorrow. …show more content…
It is certainly a lot tougher than just picking random stocks and seeing how it goes. No matter how much research you do always be mindful of the fact that risk is involved. Even a sure thing comes with a certain amount of risk. I liked that we had to choose a variety of different stocks because although investing in several comes with its share of risks, investing in just one stock is extremely risky. A good strategy is great to have as it may reduce some of the risk, but it can be long and complicated because it takes a lot of time. Even as a beginner, I just wanted to jump in and start investing. I quickly found out that it does not work like that. Just jumping in without any preparation is a recipe for disaster. Dividend yield is extremely important, remember that! Knowing if the company that you want to invest in is profitable is one of the most important steps. There was no way I wanted to invest in a company that was already doing poorly. I did not gain as much money as I would have liked in this stock exchange, but I learned a valuable lesson. Study, study, study, and after you study be ready to adjust when

The book I read over this summer was Naked Economics: Undressing a Dismal Science by Charles Wheelan. I actually enjoyed the book and it was a very informational book about the overall importance of economics and how to understand them. Over all 12 chapters, Wheelan went into full description of how several aspects of microeconomics makes a difference and modern day examples of uses of economics worldwide. The first three chapters were basically an introduction to the world of economics, which was really useful in giving me a glance at what I will possibly be learning in my upcoming AP Economics course.…

Stocks are seen as the easiest type of security to understand and follow. At first, I was exposed to the stocks with betas at or near 1, meaning they were mostly part of the indexes that made up the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. With these safer choices, I quickly raised my rankings from 13 to the top 5 for several days. Once I attempted to spread my portfolio to less known stocks, my portfolio decreased in value leading to weeks of low rankings among the class. The next couple of weeks of class led to a greater knowledge in the derivatives markets such as options and futures.…

It was very hard to select just three topics to reflect in this report because every section on the course, I learned new concepts, how to apply them and have a knowledge directly from practitioners rather than purely academics; that is exactly what I expect from an MBA course. I am going to address in this assignment my learnings on the investment process, asset allocation and behaviouralising finance as follow in the next section. 2.…
