There’s only one problem: your landline is all the way across the room, connected to a wall forcing you to stand up while you make the call. Not to mention, actually calling the pizza place would mean awkward conversation with a complete stranger. Then you remember! Thanks to your cell phone that is already in your hand, the entire situation can be avoided. Through the intense demand of the iPhone and similar gadgets a huge new market of laborers is needed. Millions of previously unemployed Chinese children, teens, and adults now have incredible jobs, working in densely packed factories producing hundreds of thousands of cellular devices every day. Not only are they now employed, they are overworked with twelve hour work days, never starved of activity or overcome with boredom. In fact, when interviewed a worker said when they got back to the dormitories they didn’t even want to move; not even to eat (source 1)! This shows each day is chock full of activities. In addition to saving money, the production of cell phones is aiding China with a solution to the issue of overpopulation. In 2009, 18 workers attempted to commit suicide after deciding they could no longer handle the working conditions (source 2). Due to radiation given off by cell phones, millions of people are exposing themselves to an increased risk of cancer every day. The more tumors that develop, the more doctors needed to diagnose them, therefore increasing the rate of hire for medical professionals. Furthermore, approximately 1.6 million car accidents per year in the US alone are attributed to texting and driving (source 3), a process that wouldn’t be possible without mobile phones. With over 330,000 of these leading to serious injury or death, surgeons and nurses are needed more than ever. For the remaining 1.3 million accidents, legal action is most usually taken. This opens up a huge need for litigators and attorneys to defend either those breaking laws through texting and driving or those who were harmed by the
