A note of caution: enthusiasm shouldn 't take the place of God 's Word. Has thoughtful thinking and ideas been bounced around enough to see a best option? Someone wrote: "Plan ahead, it wasn 't raining when Noah built the ark." -Anonymous. Goals are going to take a team effort and lots of work. Teamwork will most likely spring from the minister 's initiation. That being said, minister 's need to take the tough job. What is the tough job? Managers work the process, but leaders work people. Minister 's are in the "people business" and indeed people are tough to get along with. It seems like so many souls could be saved, but people get in the way! Working with people is never on the top of the "to do" list. Many want to live as Emperor and just dictate what is going to happen. Maxwell reminds us that we need to complete and not compete. He lists five things this will take: listening, finding common ground, being available, keeping humor and being truthful. Listening shows that one cares and is willing and open to other 's idea 's. With those ideas, common ground can be found. The minister needs to be available for the progression of these ideas, but also available for the controversial ideas people didn 't bring up in public. Maxwell lists a few types of thinking: poor thinking (negative progress), average thinking (no progress), good thinking (some progress) and great thinking (great progress). Minister 's need to articulate their own thinking to the members. The author lists eleven skills that good thinkers must have. They must think with the big picture in mind and yet also keep focused on the task at hand. While being creative (innovative) they must know their limits based on reality. Being strategic and tactical, they shouldn 't neglect any possibilities. If a congregation doesn 't think they have the power for a specific goal, can it be accomplished through a mini

The appearance of the minister seems to be more important to the townspeople than the sermon he is preaching on a Sunday morning. “Such was the effect of this simple piece of crape, that more than one woman of delicate nerves was forced to leave the meeting-house” (Hawthorne 390). The people are disturbed and distracted by the black veil that they could not sit in the same room as Mr.…

Some people in my discourse community have a problem with the pastor having authority. They might feel like he is not a good pastor, and he is not teaching us right. Hence. One of the major themes of “The Minister’s Black Veil” is that those who acknowledge the secrets of their hearts and those who choose to stand apart from their people will often find that they are either being ignored by him or furthermore, avoided. So this placed him in a situation where he may might as well lead his life of loneliness, as a prisoner in his own…

The community has a contract with God, so we do his will or we suffer. Ministers here are highly respected, because they are the people that God has chosen for salvation and they are the only ones who can help us with our salvation. We believe that God chose each person from birth for salvation and that the only way for a person to find out if they were chosen by God was through good words, praying and attending church. People who didn’t fulfill their responsibilities or follow our faith were either banished or imprisoned and for those who didn’t want to repent were executed. I know it sounds harsh, but we are just doing what’s best for the community.…

Practically, if we had to endure the pain of other people’s sins, it might be a good idea to go the same route as the minister. We all cope with things in our own way, some are just different from others. In article 2, it states “he is shielding his eyes in order to scrutinize them”, that means that he’s not hiding a sin of his own, but is hiding himself from the sins of others. If he was hiding his own sins, he would have known something more towards the line of suspicious, cynical, dubious. He wouldn’t be leaving the hint of mystery if he wasn’t bearing the weight of something (sins of others).…

Tale of Two Leaders The striking differences between a Catholic priest and a Christian pastor are nearly too numerous to count. Not only in the services they conduct, but their orientation into their field and the way they are taught to interact. The reality of the situation is the contrasts exist only to highlight to comparisons. Between Ronald Cobb, the Christion pastor in Horton Kansas, and Benjamin Tremmel, the Catholic priest of the Good Intent Parish, there exist some of the most uncommon similarities one might find between such different holy men.…

I was a student pastor for almost three years. Like most ministry areas, you must be able to multi-task and manage different initiatives at the same time. Being effective sometimes means that you have to switch to-and-from a number of different projects, and ultimately to be able to finish them. When emergencies and unforeseen circumstances occur, this can cause a lot of confusion and panic; being able to stay calm and ad-dress these situations, in a timely and appropriate manner is vital in a ministry…

    Wounded Healer Summary

I believe Nouwen’s assertion that ministers are wounded and in need of healing before they can minister to others is insightful and spot on. (Nouwen, 88) Nouwen points to both personal loneliness and professional loneliness as common causes of ministers being wounded and needing healing before they can effectively minister to others. (Nouwen, 89-93) I love the way Nouwen summarizes the call of today’s ministers in the face of these types of wounds, stating: “They are called to be the wounded healer, the ones who must not only look after their own wounds, but at the same time be prepared to heal the wounds of others.” (Nouwen, 88) He also states: “it is their task to make visible the first vestiges of liberation for others.”…
