The Inception of of the OSH act allowed for an effective basis of safety to be built into a legal guideline system. However, some feel that the organization that came of the act is over bearing and ineffective. Thus the idea of company specific safety programs funded by the financial means used to support OSHA as it’s funding. The ideal way to go about such a program would be one that closely resembles the OSHA organization, but has it’s shortcomings compensated by alternative means.

It seems apparent that OSHA has some inkling of how to safely operate in a workplace. However, if a regulation appeared over bearing or to restrictive, it would be brought to the committee and examined to determine the reasoning behind it. If it is over-compensating for an issue, than the restrictions would be relaxed to a degree that would still be safe whilst allowing for a greater degree of flexibility. In an ideal world this would promote an evolving program that changed to fit the workplace at an optimal level, rather than expect the workplace to be warped to fit it. On the other hand, if a safety issue arose in a committee meeting arose that highlighted an insufficiency in existing safety protocols, then the committee would discuss and draft a new guideline to amend the …show more content…
Unfortunately, this is far from the case. Whenever any amount of money, regardless of how small, is threatened or forfeited as a result of another’s actions, direct or otherwise, it Will produce tension between the one who lost the money and the perceived cause. Whether or not this is fair, is irrelevant to the reality of the situation. Unfortunately, it is not reasonable punish persons for a wrongdoing not committed. Because of this, the greatest weakness of the system, is human nature. People will lie, cheat and, slander, fellow workers if they perceive enough of a benefit from it. Worse yet, there is no good way that any sanctions against such actions could be enforced. Consequently, the structure discussed above is built primarily on the notion that the employees will be able to think of others on a relatively consistent basis.
No system can be perfect, and the proposed committee system certainly has its issues. However, it is seemingly an effective alternative to the already present OSHA system. The most important prerogative of any system should be constant improvement. Without this there is complacency. With complacency, comes staleness. That is never good. No matter what measures a company implements to keep it’s employees safe, it should be constantly evolving and improving to prevent problems from occurring as well
