A New Perspective-Personal Narrative

The summer after my seventh-grade year, I encountered a new perspective on life. The day I had a change in perspective, I had a softball game at this complex in Springfield. About 20 minutes into our first game, I felt a change in atmosphere. It all started when I played second base and these obnoxious, loud sirens started going off around the big town of Springfield. After our perfect inning of three outs, I noticed my parents missing from the crowd cheering me on. As I jog towards the dugout with my stomach turning, my best friends’ family awaits.
When I finally make it over to them and I saw them with a troubled expression, I knew something had happened. With discomfort in my stomach, I listened to the words come out of their mouth in disbelief. On her way to my game, my grandma had a car accident right by her house. Although I wanted to go to the hospital to see my grandma, my family thought it had the best outcome for me to finish out my game and stay with my friend; however, this seemed like their way to keep my mind off the situation. After our game, we grabbed a bite to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings. I fell silent and had no words.

Whenever we arrived, my eyes blurred at the sight of my grandma's suburban. As we approached the suburban, my parents arrived and told us the extent of her injuries, we stood there in awe. The way her car looked did not match the extent of her injuries. We felt lucky to have our grandma still around with minimal bruising and a broken back. I stared in at my catcher, Drew Wessel, beads of sweat fell off my forehead. It was the bottom of the sixth and we were one out away from winning the World Series, he flashed me a two which meant curveball. I checked the runner, got my grip on the ball, and checked the runner again. I lifted my leg and let go of the ball. We were the last game of the tournament, it was August 1st and the daylight was just starting to slip behind the Rocky Mountains in center field.…

Dino was pitching them dead, and my team’s only hope was Johnny. We got up to the 10th inning, going strong, but staying tied; the sun was setting, and the moon was coming out to play. As I was gazing up at the wonderfully bright stars I heard a sharp call from the pitcher's mound… it was make or break. My palms were sweating and I couldn’t tell if my pulse was either going really fast, or was just nonexistent. I knew I should have dropped out but Johnny’s words just kept sticking in my brain, repeating over and over again.…

The game was tied at 7-7 in the last inning with two outs, not an optimum situation for any hitter out on the softball field of a championship game. There were two girls on base, one on second, the other on third. The sound of my metal cleats crushing the dirt filled my ears as I walked up to home plate. I knew I had to be resilient after striking out the time before. The intensity was ubiquitous and I could feel it from everyone around me.…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

Life is simply perspective. Some say that you have your whole life to do something, while others will argue that life is short and you should enjoy it to the full extent of it’s worth. You can look at something as exquisite, or atrocious. It doesn’t change what it is, but it changes your reaction to it. No matter how sure you are about the morality, someone else could view it differently.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
