Before going to the theater with friends or family for a great action packed thriller, I may think twice before buying a ticket to see Taken. Taken, written by Luc Besson, and directed by Pierre Morel, was first released in 2009 and is believed to be one of the most thrilling action films of the season. However after watching the 93 minute film some viewers may disagree. If you have watched the film Man On Fire, you will notice the similarities between both of these action packed films, telling a story of a ex CIA agent who will stop at nothing to save someone they love. Unfortunately Taken's unrealistic acting and very predictable plot prevents viewers from experiencing the actuality families face that are affected by the horrors of sex trafficking, which the movie attempts to portray.…

Two novels, written each in a different century by two very different authors, tell stories of perseverance. The oldest one, Great Expectations written by Charles Dickens in 1860, illustrates the life of Pip during the Victorian Era. The novel is narrated by aged Pip, as he reflects on his past. As The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, tells the tale of Junior’s childhood on the Spokane Indian Reservation in a diary format. In the movie Psycho there is a scene where the lead female actress Janet Leigh is in the shower and she gets murdered, but it doesn’t actually show her getting stabbed. The history of this movie is that it is horror movie, and it was directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, and written by Joseph Stefano, starring Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, John Gavin, Vera Miles and Martin Balsam, and was based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. In the 1960 and 1998 version of the movie Psycho I believe that the 1998 version is better. That is because the 1998 movie shows more blood going down the drain and the sound of her being stabbed is better, plus before she gets killed it is a long time before she gets killed, and they do that to build up the suspension. Shot duration is are something good about the scene.…

This essay has to do with all the things in the book 1984 and in the movie Divergent, it's not so much comparing them it's seeing the common things and what they are. Divergent and 1984 has some of the same qualities, Divergent was more interesting to me not only because it was a movie but because of the story it had, sure it was similar to 1984 but it was a totally different story. A lot of the things the two had was controlled government that was a major theme That was in the two. In 1984 the government not only controlled the laws but almost seemed like they controlled rights and freedoms, that was the most bizarre thing just because the fact that not only the laws were too strict but the freedoms that we have today as society were limited to none in the book.…

The films American Movie and It Follows serve as great examples of realistic and formalistic aesthetics, respectively. Realistic aesthetics deal with the idea of objectivity in film making, and any aesthetics implemented serve to continue the narrative or theme of the film. The idea of formalistic aesthetics directly contrasts this; these films works in the realm of subjectivity and regards aesthetic form just as high as the plot. This strong contrast between the two aesthetics can be seen throughout the films, most noteworthy are the differences in: cinematography, special effects, mise-en-scene, and melodrama each film incorporates.…
