Personal Narrative: A Christmas Dinner

Improved Essays
Christmas time is one of my favorite times of the year! All of the joy and happiness in the air, everyone smiling, the excitement of spending time with family and getting gifts! Remember when I had Christmas dinner at my grandmas for the first time. I was about 7 or 8 years old when we went to my grandmas for dinner. We didn’t have enough food at my house and my grandmother said that they had enough for my mom, dad, and I, plus the rest of our family! There were at least 20 to 30 people there. The things I remember most is how amazing the food smelled, how large my grandmother’s house actually was, how wonderful the food was, the first time I ever had pie, and being able to enjoy time with my family. These of just some of the thing I remember about going to my grandmothers for Christmas dinner.
We went early in the morning so we could open our presents as well. When we got there my grandma was still cooking so we

I love being around them, they love me and they sometimes even spoiled me. They knew that we had it rough and they took care of us the best they could. If I ever had any problems my grandpa always knew what to say to make things better. Even to this day if I ever need anything I go to them for help, because to this day they still help us out. It actually came to a point to where my parents weren’t able to take care of me anymore and I had to go live with them, but that’s a whole different story. I loved being around all my family and being able to have such a wonderful meal. It was just one of those experiences that you’ll never forget. I remember it like it was just last week. We never really did it again, but one thing is certain. I will never forget it. I’m not sure if it was the food or the atmosphere, but I know for a fact that it is one of my most vivid memories. I hope that one day I’ll be able to have a family gathering like that when I’m older and not have problems with any of my

I miss them already. Despite the freezing cold snow and the nipping air, we had a lovely Christmas break. As I inspect my child, now grown with children of her own, holding tickets back to their home, longing envelopes me. Hoards of people push past, unaware of my pain, on their own schedules and heading toward different trains, talking and texting on their cell phones. My family boards, time as if in slow-motion, and waves goodbye until I see them again. I can't do anything but wave, a fake smile upon my face as my heart breaks and sadness washes over me. The wheels grind on the track, creating sparks that fall like shooting stars, and they speed away and off into the distance. A piercing whistle blows out, echoing against the high…

My family has never been big on the holidays- I almost always spend them at a friend’s home. This year, I went to my friend Alex’s home for Thanksgiving alongside my friend Jay. Alex and Jay are frankly some of the greatest friends I can ask for, and going in to thank them I knew they would take it light-heartedly and make a joke out of it. Before we sat down for dinner, the three of us were sitting in her living room ranting and cracking jokes. I was rehearsing the lines in my head, thinking of ways to pop the sentence to them. I finally settled on “Hey guys, thank you for always being there for me and listening to me complain, even though you don’t know what I’m saying half the time.” I knew the last line would make them laugh and go on a rampage…

Thanksgiving is the special time of year when families come together to enjoy each other's presence and say thanks for all the gifts they have been given. Which is what makes Thanksgiving one of my most favorite holiday's. Thanksgiving is a time for family to practice traditions and bond with good people, over good food. My favorite Thanksgiving dinner, and my favorite dining experience overall, happened 2 years ago at my Aunts house. This Thanksgiving dinner is my favorite because my great aunt and uncle were visiting from Florida that week, and we only get to see them every couple of years. This Thanksgiving was different from others because everyone was allowed to help cook, and normally my aunt freaks out about cooking and is the only one allowed in the kitchen.…

I never really thought anything could truly scare me. I mean I am the kid who played with snakes and set ant hills on fire, what can make me scared? Well one day I decided to put my courage to the test. It was a couple of nights after thanksgiving, I remember because it was the last time we had gotten a week-long break before the one we took for Christmas. I just came to the thought maybe I will be the bravest one of them all. So I began to pack my book bag with everything that I felt necessary to survive one night in the woods, basically I got food, a blanket, and a lamp. I felt that was enough to get me through the night. So I waited until everybody was asleep to embark on my journey. As soon as I could assure myself that I was going through…

Thanksgiving at Marymount California University was one day I will never forget. The day was to celebrate the holiday as a school with staff and students. I arrived at the cafeteria and it looked like it got shut down. The tables were covered with orange and yellow tablecloth. The room was soon filled quickly. Many of us were hungry and decided this was an option since the cafeteria took a break and closed down as a whole. Some were very excited about the tradition. Being in middle I thought the tradition was more interesting to me then eating away in a fashion of hungry and starving animals. We were all introduced in the diverse community of our school and how each said Thank you. Drinks were provided. The drinks were water, pomegranate juice and pink lemonade.…

It's Thanksgiving evening. My family and relatives sit around our table, decorated with cartoon turkeys and fall leaves. A big, juicy turkey sits in the middle of the table with gravy and cranberry sauce by it’s side. We go around the table, stating what we are thankful for. “I am thankful for...” When I think about what I’m thankful for, the list could go on and on. It seems practically never ending! On my list of thankful topics, three things are right at the top, my family, my education, and our country. First off, my family plays a big part in my life and I love spending time with them. My mom helps our entire family every day. She always gets up early to drive my brother to the bus stop, and myself to school. After, she works very hard…

Thanksgiving dinner in my family is a big deal all our family and friends gather around to celebrate. There is always plenty of food, drinks, music and laughter. My family is loud, crazy and not afraid to voice their opinions so there is always drama at every dinner or family event. I chose to write on this because I never payed attention to detail or interactions at these dinners like why the women cook? Or why it is important that we are all together. I also chose to write on this because I want to know how culture and traditions are incorporated at our thanksgiving dinner. I never noticed any of this because I’m so used to it always being the same like a routine at each dinner.…
