As a child, going to college was a foreign to me. I didn’t see it as a priority, it was not important to me because I hardly even knew it existed. I was your average 7 year old boy running the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico during the summer, coming home with a black eye and busted lip from fist fights, coming home to a garbage filled apartment, coming home to find my mother lying on the torn up leather couch out cold reeking of booze with a bottle in her hand, coming home late at night to find 4 year old sister with autism still awake at 11:00pm not eating, I came home every night being afraid whether or not we would have enough money to even pay the bills when they came around. Having no money made it even hard during the school year, I wore torn up, smelly, and stained clothes and was made fun of constantly. …show more content…
I didn’t have a role model which was hard due to the fact I looked up to no one because everyone around was a lousy influence. Then my mom dropped a bomb on me, we were moving to Oregon, The next few years were a blur to me, whenever I went out I saw no meaning in the nature around me, I went to school and saw no meaning in the work. Then around 7th grade things were looking up, I felt a little more included and equal, then one of my friends was telling me about a program called AVID. After I got accepted the first week felt odd because they were talking about college and all of the kids there wanted to go to college. Then it dawned on me, I am inspired by the military and what they do, specifically the EOD specialists. They have truly touched my heart with how many lives they save. At Oregon State there is a program called the ROTC. I made it my lifetime goal to get there and I knew I could achieve that goal if I worked for
