" The Most Dangerous Game " a mysterious short story Richard Connell’s short story “ The Most Dangerous Game ” has a plot that is greatly influenced by the setting. For example, General Zaroff explains how he sinks the ships. “‘ They indicate a channel, … “ where there’s none; giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide-open Jaws. They can crush a ship as easily as I crush this nut” (8). General Zaroff tells of how he uses the fake channel to crush the ships. The general does this to gain people to hunt. Another reason is, as the general told Rainsford the swamp is dangerous as said in its name “ Death Swamp ”. “‘ I suggest, too, that you avoid the big swamp in the southeast corner of the island. We call it Death Swamp.
