Music is personal and full of emotions. Therefore everyone has their own opinion on what is considered a good music genre. As for movies and their soundtrack albums overall, a great movie soundtrack comes down to the theme it creates, how it moves people emotionally, the use of songs with lyrics or without lyrics, and the use of covers or remixes. Composers like Theodore Shapiro use music to make movies more alive and have a deeper impression. Shapiro used his talent as a music director to make a memorable soundtrack for the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty making it number 57th on best sold movie soundtracks on Amazon and 39th on iTunes. Although the storyline wasn’t the greatest hit, the soundtrack in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty made up all the difference in the effect of the movie on viewers. The soundtrack is what made The Secret Life of Walter Mitty stand out from the other movies directed by Ben Stiller.

Because music is a powerful tool that can change people’s emotions, the film’s music needs to give the viewer the correct emotion that fits the scene. That is a music crew’s goal in writing the score for any movie. When the music fits just right it will paint the picture of the scene with the music in the viewers mind, because of that, every time the viewer will listen to a song from the movie, it makes them think of that exact scene it is from. The theme song is very much similar and just how the writers use music to recall a viewer to a specific scene in a movie, the theme song does this except it recalls the viewers to the entire movie. The theme song usually is referred to throughout the movie and will be the theme song without necessarily being called a theme song like a television show will have with the same video clip showed introducing the show.
