Improved Essays
Four time winner of New York Times Best Illustrated Award, Jerry Pinkney has now recreated for us one of aesop's fables about a friendship between a mouse and a lion. The timeless story is one in which has no worlds, except for the ever so often use of a descriptive sound. Younger friends will have to interpret the brilliant works of art showing an odd relationship between a king of the jungle and a mouse. This picture book starts out with a giant and dangerous lion sparing the tiny powerless mouse of his dinner, which the mouse later repay’s by saving the king out of a dangerous hunters trap by nibbling and clawing down the ropes. Through out the story the author and illustrator uses a breathtaking array of colors to create a telling tale.

On my attempt on creating an emulation of Kafka’s work, I created a story about a dystopian world, Rodentopia, based on Aesop’s fables and The Giver. In this world, a mouse named Mr.Johnson, has to hear the harsh reality of Rodentopia from authoritative figures also known as “The Four Eldest Rogues”. These Rogues, who are mice themselves, tells Mr.Johnson that his newborn baby is not allowed in Rodentopia, because he is a fox. Through their misinterpretation of Aesop’s fables, they told Mr.Johnson all foxes are the root of all evil and Mr.Johnson’s son must be killed.…

The Frozen Outcast When we look at life situations from our one and only perspective, we don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. It is impossible for us to view things from the point of view of anyone other than ourselves. Within the poem “Boy at the Window,” Richard Wilbur gives life to this expression, while showing us two poems in one. Wilbur uses point-of-view, along with personification, irony, and imagery, to make “Boy at the Window” the poem it is. This poem shows the reader the point-of-view of a lonely boy and a snowman who is stuck outside in the cold, unloving darkness of night.…

This took two pages of the book for one scene to emphasize the importance of the illustration because it showed how the lion gave the mouse a chance. This story has a great meaning for children that they can understand and may relate as well. The lion and the mouse show that everybody has the ability to help others no matter how big or how small. I remember when I was reading this book to the children at the center for story time and they were shocked the lion had let him go. They thought because the lion is so big he wouldn’t want to be friends with a mouse or he wouldn’t let him go when he could just eat him.…
