Are You Protecting Your Rights? “Human rights are not worthy of the name if they do not protect the people we don’t like as well as those we do,” were words once said by Trevor Phillips. These words couldn’t be more true and relate more to the world today. It is so crazy to think that the U.S. has been fighting for civil rights for so many years and though it has come a long way they are still fighting for full equality. In the speech,”A More Perfect Union” by Barack Obama, he talks about human rights, and how we protect our rights to try and stay equal. He mentions that he is able to recognise the union is not perfect, but it will continue to grow and get better as the generations go on. He also knows some different ways to fight for equality from personal experience. This connects him with the audience more because they know he has an experience with the issue and will continue to fight for it. The text states,”That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems. “ This shows how he knows how to fight for rights and knows …show more content…
It is very hard to believe that the U.S is still fighting for equality towards everyone for so long. In the Speech by Obama, he notices that the union isn’t perfect, but it will continue to grow by working together. In the poem, Democracy, by Langston Hughes he also notices that many fear the world because people doesn’t accept them as a equal, but he knows they know they are just as important as everyone else. This is and important topic because people all over the world are being discriminated and racially profiled for things as little as race or even gender when we should be living as equal people in the

Since the birth of the United States of America, there have always been issues that have split the country. These hot-topics have changed over time, in the recent years we’ve seen the repercussions of the divide over gay marriage. Currently, we face racial inequalities that many believe to need a reformation. These racial inequities have existed for much longer, however. In 1791, we saw this inequality in slavery; one of the most disgusting things this country has ever faced.…

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed - we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal," were the words once spoken by Martin Luther King Jr. His vision was that one day, “little black boys and little black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.” These notions are being regarded in our everyday lives. He spoke with ethos, pathos and logos- appealing to a variety of cultures.…

There have been a plethora of social change groups and social movements throughout America’s history. Each group has a goal and a blockage in their way. Each group is fighting generally for the same thing, equality. In “ Nobody Turned Me Around: A People’s History of the 1963 March on Washington”, by Charles Euchner, also can show a lot about freedom. In this short story, it talks about racism, like Martin Luther King Jr’s speech. I think this is important because it can show a lot about how everyone is equally the same. This speech is trying to tell people no matter what color, or shape, size, or sex you are, we are all equal. This speech constantly says that it does not matter where you are from, if you are rich or poor, if you are black or white, or if you are male or female, we are still all the same.…

The Cambridge Dictionary’s definition of equality is, “The right of different groups of people to receive the same treatment.” The struggle of equality usually occurs within groups of people with a common gender, race, religion, or belief. When we deny equal rights to one of these common groups, we teach our younger generations that it is acceptable to deny people basic rights which leads to turmoil and uproar in our country. The cure for this is standing up for equality, showing pride for your race, and demanding justice. Martin Luther King showed exemplary examples of demanding justice in his famous “I Have a Dream Speech” as Lorraine Hansberry shows pride in her world-renowned play A Raisin in the Sun.…

Imagine going through your life with no equality, and the person next to you had the freedom of things that you didn’t have, or if you didn’t have the right to your own life and happiness, or even if you couldn’t adjust your leaders when they begin to destruct. This is how our life would be today without Thomas Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence(DOI). These three ideals of the DOI are the most important for various reasons. Equality of all humans is very important to the independence and freedom that we have.…

When growing up in the United States many have heard throughout their childhood that “society here is equal”. This, however, is untrue in many ways. For one, America didn’t become close to equal until women achieved their rights a couple of decades back. The United States shows how unequal it actually is towards its people, the land of supposed freedom to obtain success. Malcolm Gladwell informs in his article, “Black Like Them”, how there is an aspiration for a better future due to the people looking past racism, however it can’t be achieved due to there always having to be a scapegoat in society.…

Equality The definition of equality is as follows: the quality of being the same in quantity or measure or value or status; a state of being essentially equal or equivalent; equally balanced” (Vocabulary.com). One might ponder why the definition of equality is the first sentence of this essay, especially when the general of the population already knows what the word means. Well if the general population already knows the concept of equality, then my question is this, Why has society not yet reached equality? Inequality towards minorities still happens today in America starting with youngsters, into adulthood, and there are claims to deny these prepositions.…

“A riot is the language of the unheard”. This powerful statement was said by the late Martin Luther King Jr., and with the amount of inequality that has been seen in all areas of life (gender, racial, etc.) paired with the lack of response, it is easy to see how upping one’s protesting tactics to a level of aggressiveness can be beneficial for a movement. However, when one tends to perform nonviolent acts of noncooperation, and gather the attention of many for their movement peacefully, they tend to generate more support: therefore, it is increasingly favorable for a movement to exercise diplomacy rather than aggression. To start things off, equality is a characteristic that should be woven throughout every aspect of our lives without question.…
