My cover for A Monster Calls is a lot darker than the original. I decided to make it this way because the events and themes in the story are quite sad and angry. The little boy on the cover is meant to be Conor, the main character. The tree on the cover is also a character from the story. It looks peaceful but it has a claw amongst its leaves to show the reader that, although the tree was wise and helpful, he could also be dangerous and mean at times. Conor is leaning against the tree because in the book, the tree tells Conor three stories. At the end of the story, the tree forces Conor to tell him the truth about the way he feels because of his mother’s illness.
