A Monotheistic Religion

Christianity is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, who lived 2,000 years ago. In 2010, the number of Christians was at 2.2 billion, 31 percent of the world’s population (Chappell, 2015). Christians believe that God created the Earth and everything else, including humans, in six days. On the other hand, science has revealed that earth most likely was formed about 4.6 billion years ago. It formed from dust and gas rotating and gathered by gravity after the Sun was made. Humans were then made by evolving bacteria over the course of thousands of years. This theory makes sense rather than God being the creator of everything. Many scientist have questioned churches throughout history. Nicolaus Copernicus was one of the first people to …show more content…
He was not prosecuted because he died soon after from a stroke ("Nicolaus Copernicus"). Galileo Galilei supported the Copernican theory. Galileo was a famous Italian engineer and astronomer. He built the telescope and furthered Copernicus’ research. In the same year, he published his book “The Starry Messenger.” The book revealed his discoveries that the moon was not flat but had many mountains and craters. He also found Venus had moon-like phases proving it rotated around the Sun. Galileo tried to teach students his findings were not against religious teachings. The Church made this public and ordered him to hold, teach, or defend. He obeyed the order because he was a devoted Catholic. A new Pope was selected and encouraged Galileo to continue but many people disagreed with the ordered and rejected the thought of going against the bible. Charles Darwin has made a great contribution to develop the theory of evolution. Evolution is the theory of which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth. Even though there are many blank spots, we have many hypothesizes that have

Evolution is how modern living organisms are related to ancient ones. Organisms have diversified and modified through ages and old one became extinct. According to Charles Darwin, all species have common ancestors. This means that, for instance, whales and dogs are related to each other by an old ancestor. Indeed, many organisms have common traits and characteristics, but this still doesn't mean that they are related.…

Charles Darwin was a prolific and monumental figure in biology and modern science as a whole. Through his theory of evolution most of the current knowledge of biology is derived. Throughout the chapters X, XI, XII, and XIV of The Origin of Species Darwin argues that there is a mechanism that drives an evolution of species and that species inherently transform and mutate over long periods of time. Darwin argues that species have mechanisms and methods that modify them over long periods of time to increase chances of survival and reproduction. Darwin argues that ecological and climate factors drive species to adapt, change, and morph to be better suited to survive and excel within their niche.…

For years the Catholic Church has viewed the universe as a place of stars and heavenly perfection. Geocentricity has been acknowledged, as the universe revolves around the Earth. Our opinions of a place beyond our world has been influenced by the theories of ancient writers such as Ptolemy and Aristotle, and our views shan’t be altered! This Aristotelian view of the universe has been widely accepted by both scientists and theologians, though, Galileo Galilei’s observations in Siderius Nuncius, meaning “The Starry Messenger” in latin, has contradicted these beliefs. Galileo Galilei, born February 15, 1564, a renowned physicist, engineer, philosopher, and mathematician, invented an improved version of the optical telescope in 1610.…

Introduction The letter to the Grand Duchess Christina is one of the essays that was written by Galileo Galilei in the year 1615. Galileo wrote the letter for the sole purpose of accommodating Copernicanism with the Catholic Church doctrines. In his letter, Galileo tries hard to apply the idea of Church fathers as well as doctors to demonstrate the act of condemning Copernicanism was not in any way appropriate (Cropper, 2001). The time when the letter was written was characterized by a number of debates that tried to bring about out clearly the link between science and the scripture.…

Whitney Noonan 3/17/2016 Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection was his way of explaining adaptation and speciation. This theory gave a reason as to why species “change” over time and explained the process. This was a huge discovery for Darwin because now we know that species are not fixed and are changing. Ethology, the study of animals in their natural environments, also played a role in the development of Darwin’s theory. Konrad Lorenz’s geese imprinting experiment demonstrated that evolution has a way of helping species survive in their environment.…
