In this section of the text Darcy is proposing to Elizabeth for the second time. This proposal shows how both he and Elizabeth have developed as characters over the course of the novel. Darcy has gotten over his pride which made him look down on Elizabeth for being of a lower social status than him, and Elizabeth has overcome her very negative first impression of Darcy. In addition, this piece of text also shows the success of domestic ideology, which was a reoccurring and important theme throughout the novel. Domestic ideology places importance on feelings and character.
