Ireland is a beautiful country that is suffering from a huge problem of overpopulation that brings with it the problem of poverty and that begins to affect the economy in a negative way. Swift acknowledges that is a major problem ignored by people and politicians which is why he brings it up to inform them of just how big of an issue this is and this is how Ireland should not be. Swift begins by stating the problem, “It is a melancholy object to those, who walk through this great town, or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the roads and cabbin-doors crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed by three, four, or six children, all in rags, and importuning every passenger for an alms” (Swift pg. 1) Swift describes to us the current scenario of Ireland which is a nation that is suffering from poverty as people will see in the streets flooded with families begging for money. He mentions how each mom has at least three or more children which brings up how overpopulated Ireland is and most of the reason why is because there are so many children. Due to this many mothers are not able to work and instead they have to be on the streets along with their children begging for money. Essentially he is inferring that these children are a burden to their mothers and society as well since they do not help out at home and instead they are contributing to the downfall of the country and its economy. As a result the middle class will suffer which is why there needs to be a solution or eventually the higher economic classes will eventually plunge down to the lower classes economic status and then the whole country of Ireland will become
