I believe in this situation the best situation for this is to give Young life in prison. To clear up the shady area in this matter I think that the courts should set up a guideline for what is considered “mentally retarded.” This is because mentally retarded people are not like normal people. They might not understand what is going on around them and they might be spooked and do something they won’t know that is very bad and illegal. That is why I think they should set up a guideline so that rulings can be clearer in the future…
Everyday there are people who struggle with some type of incarceration whether its physical or emotional. Being incarcerated can happen to anyone at any point in their life, some people are convicted at birth making it an uphill battle from the start, while others become incarcerated by the decisions they make at some point in their life. St. Francis, both Wes Moore’s and Robert Peace have all experienced some type of incarceration in their life, but were not all incarcerated in the same way. Each person had their own battles they had to fight to get out of being incarcerated. Some of these people fully got out of the situation or environment that was incarcerating them in order to free themselves and start a new life, while others are currently…
Philip Holloway wrote the article “Should 11-year-olds be charged with adult crimes?” for the Cable News Network on October 14, 2015. Holloway, a CNN Legal Analyst, discusses the case of an 11 year old boy who murdered an 8 year old girl for refusing to allow the boy to see her puppy. The author believes juveniles shouldn’t be tried as adults and also points out that placing them in adult prisons puts them in more danger. Holloway suggests…
No Child Should Have a Life Sentence in Prison 14-year-old Kenneth Young received four life sentences in prison. He was convinced and forced to participate in assisting a 24-year-old male rob a convenience store. Kenneth was not a primary participant in this doing; he was only the second man and wasn’t in contact with victims or even within the general area of where the money was. He was the one to take care of getting the tape out of the recorder.…
Families and children are negatively impacted by the increased incarceration of women in America. “In the United States, there are more children with incarcerated parents than there are people in prison.” (Boudin, 2011) Women before incarceration, are frequently the heads of their households and have children that depend on them for financial stability and care. Studies show that the extended absence of incarcerated mothers from homes results in less stable environments for children when breadwinners are and children are left without support and guidance.…
Juveniles as young as 14 are being positioned in prisons with adults from minimum to maximum prisons. A minimum prison would house offenders who have committed a minor offense such as theft, while a maximum prison house felonies who have engaged in activities such as rape or murder. In 2005, the Supreme Court banned the death penalty ruling “people under 18 are immature, irresponsible, susceptible to peer-pressure and often capable of change (Scott, 2012).” Although, the court recognizes juveniles are immature, irresponsible, and susceptible to peer-pressure yet juveniles remain housed with adults. “For instance, several studies have reported a greater probability of recidivism for juveniles processed in the adult justice system compared with…
Too Young or Just Right? Through history, the way society has dealt with consequences to previous unjust actions have evolved over the years, especially with children. In the 18th century kids were being sent to jail or killed for innocent crimes. Cyriaque Lamar, an expert on this time period states “During the Victorian era kinds as young as 11 received adult sentences for minor crimes”.…
Peter Vala, a 42-year old man who used his belligerent strength to strangle his girlfriend to death many years ago, is serving a prison sentence for murder. Perhaps you’re picturing him in a maximum-security prison, wearing an orange jumpsuit, surrounded by electric fences and armed guards with attack dogs. In reality, Vala, who has biceps the size of footballs, is being held in a place where many of us would consider a vacation. In Oslo, Norway lies a minimum-security prison, Bastoy, where felons hold keys to their own locks. Here, Vala and 114 other inmates who have been convicted for malicious acts such as murder, rape and drug trafficking, are free to enjoy saunas, go horseback riding or even spend the day sun tanning at the beach.…
I believe that, when a person commits a crime, they should endure a punishment that fits the crime they committed. A thirteen year sentence for a crime that was not even completed seems outrageous to me. This boy had issues, and could have spent some time in a juvenile facility, which I believe would have gotten his attention. Then he would have been able to continue moving forward with his life. Thirteen years stole this young man’s youth, not allowing him to experience things during his adolescence that he should have.…
Ian was told to plead guilty to attempted homicide. The judge proceeded to sentence the thirteen year old boy life in prison. The prison decided that the best thing for Ian was to be put into solitary confinement where he was sectioned off from any other inmates and the prison workers that threatened him with abuse or sexual assault. “A teacher who had been confined in the facility when she was a teenager confided to us that she had been sexually assaulted by a staff member who was still in our employ years later.” (“What Mass Incarceration Looks Like for Juveniles”…
To enter into a prison, with the weight of one’s crime, is the most loss anyone could feel. Reid however feels that this feeling of loss can be a good thing, because you are stripped down to the basics and your outlook on one everything that is good and bad…
All eyes were glued to the judge as he said the words that would change the juvenile’s life forever. He was being sentenced to life in prison as a part of a crime he committed with his friends. Many young adolescents some as young as 9 , are being forced to go to prison for long periods of time on an almost daily basis. Minor’s should not be allowed to be tried as adults and to be sentenced to life in prison, as an adult environment would be to brutal for them to cope with. In addition, most kids are very susceptible to peer pressure and often act on impulse in large groups.…
This action describes Charles to be a thorough and thoughtful person. He is listing all the benefits and downfalls of marriage so that he can make sure he is making the right decision for himself. Based on some of the things he listed as downfalls of marriage, Darwin could also be seen as selfish, since he didn’t want his wife to hold him back from science. Charles’ father didn’t allow his children to have much freedom of thought, except for the area of religion. This was the perfect opportunity for Charles to put religious studies aside, and focus on his own experiments to form a new idea of creation.…

People commit crimes without their knowledge about their future. If an individual really went into the depth of the penalty they will face after the crime; they will not commit it. I don’t think someone will chose living in a life without a meaning. Going to prison no more life. Life is defined as developing memories, having fun, learning new stuff and the increase of social life.…
