Myers Briggs Type Indicator Analysis

In 1943 mother and daughter duo, Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers developed the first edition of what is now known as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (“A Mini-History” 1). More than seventy years later this test is still used in numerous high schools, universities, and workplaces across the world. Personalities are based on “four separate dichotomies” (“A Mini-History” 1) assessing where one’s energy is directed, how one processes information, how one evaluates information, and how we display ourselves to the world around us. Upon taking this test I have been categorized as an ENTJ, or “The Commander” (16 Personalities). As an ENTJ I express my energy towards the world around me. I also tend to focus on the meanings of facts/events …show more content…
Over the last eighteen years I have learned to develop the skills associated with my personality, skills that will propel me into the world of nursing and give me an edge that can only be possessed by an ENTJ.
Throughout high school I was always known to be one of the “smart kids”, but I never truly excelled in a class as I did in Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) my junior year. Anatomy and Physiology is the study of the structure and function of the human body parts. Although it was unknown to me at the time many aspects of this class aligned perfectly with my learning style. ENTJs typically prefer a learning environment that is well organized, a topic that is analytical, and something that doesn’t have to be

By comprising only 0.9% of the population female ENTJs are exceptionally rare, so growing up with my personality was a fairly daunting challenge (“How” 1). Although it is 2016, many in the general vicinity of Western Pennsylvania still believe that females should not be goal oriented, determined students/employees, but that they should settle for a life of cooking and cleaning. Due to the ambition that defines ENTJs I never fit well into the aforementioned role of a perfect Western Pennsylvanian wife. I grew up determined to be the absolute best I can possibly become, I am extremely critical on myself and have pushed myself to overcome numerous challenges in my path. These attributes of my personality have taught me that I can do most anything that I set my mind to, but they also reminded me that I have limits and that I cannot hold other people to the same standard to which I hold myself.
As “commander[s]” ENTJs become leaders in their workplaces, communities, and sometimes even on the world platform (16 Personalities). By having the traits of an ENTJ I too am equipped with the determination, self-discipline, and work ethic it takes to become a great figure in my own community. In the words of my fellow ENTJ Margaret Thatcher, “if you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing” (“Margaret”

    ENTJ People Are Realists

ENTJ people are realists, in the most basic sense of the word. Not only because their thinking is based upon a clear view of how things actually are in the world around them, but also because their ideas and strategies are structured around those unambiguous, "down to earth", commonsense beliefs which sum up the obvious and undeniable in life. But while ENTJs might be pragmatic about the immediate situation before them, they are scarcely satisfied with it until it can be made more productive, useful or valuable. The ENTJ's reasoning on such matters is always clear and generally unemotional. If action can improve an item or a situation then it ought to be taken, and the ENTJ will always be found in the midst of such action, organizing, planning…

The functional analysis explained, “Dominant feeling prefers to find the silver lining in even the most beggarly perceptions of those in their expanding circle of friends and, of course, in themselves”. I always try to find the good in every situation and believe there is great potential in every person to fulfill a profound purpose and do extraordinary things, especially when someone believes in them. Garret Hunter, INFJ type, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator reflection The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment provided, in my opinion, valuable and interesting information as to what my character can be seen as. Reading through the generated report offered deep insight into some of my characteristics; the test stated that I would find a desirable career where I would have opportunities to express my preferences, be recognized for using national gifts and strengths, and where I would face tasks and problems that are interesting to me. Although these results weren’t shocking, I also found it interesting that it seemed to point me in a direction where I can’t imagine myself being. Before the test I knew that I appreciate being rewarded for my natural…

Everyone Needs Fulfillment and Joy (ENFJ) If asked what the letters “ENFJ” stood for, many a passerby on the street could answer correctly, “Extroverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging,” a personality type based on the popular Myers-Briggs Type Indicator questionnaire. Some disregard the growing interest in personality tests as a fad, but that does not dismiss the fact that America has become increasingly concerned with personality, specifically with that of the extroverted student. In the article “Bring On the Elites!”, Joel Stein argues that education should better prepare students for the future, and many teachers use this reasoning to justify a focus on nurturing communicative abilities key to extroverted personalities. However, despite…

Assessment one “My Basic Personality” showed that I was indeed an ENTJ. Those of the ENTJ personality type are born leaders. They can become frustrated and impatient when things don’t unfold according to their expected plan or time frame, evoking notions of the “Type-A” personality (Drenth, n.d.). Assessment two “Ambiguity” showed me something new about myself. Having intolerance of ambiguity means that you tend to perceive situations as threatening rather than promising (Robbins, 2008).…
