Over the summer, I read three amazing books. They are A Midsummer Night’s Dream written by William Shakespeare, Mythology written by Edith Hamilton, and Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. These three books share many common ideas, including the theme of how personal identity is influenced by environment and experiences, and how identity and experiences inform choices a character makes along his or her personal journey especially when faces with challenges or hardship. In the book A Midsummer Night’s Dream, written by William Shakespeare, there are four lovers and Hermia is one of them. One of the most important choice that he makes in the story is to secretly follow his father, Gabriel to the killing of Lupito, which takes place around the river. One of the reason that makes Tony wants to go with Gabriel is his concern for Gabriel. Another reason that drew Tony out of his bed is his curiosity. Because of his curiosity, he experiences the death of someone for the first time ever. After he witnesses the death of Lupito, he learns that growing up isn’t as easy as it seem. “A priest could have save Lupito. Oh why did my mother dream for me to be a priest! How would I ever wash away the stain of blood from the sweet waters of my river!” (Pg.23). Tony also starts to question God after the death of Lupito. “Did God listen? Would he hear? Had he seen my father on the bridge? And where was Luptio’s soul winging to, or was it washing down the river to the fertile valley of my uncles’ farms?”(Pg. …show more content…
One of the most important choice that he makes is to drive the Sun’s chariot which causes his own death. One of the thing that motivates Phaeton to drive the chariot is his curiosity and bravery. “Greatly he failed, but he had greatly dared” (Pg.185) Another reason that makes Phaeton drives the chariot is the promise of the Sun to give him anything he wants. Phaeton fell out of the chariot in the middle of his “journey” and turn into poplar trees. If Phaeton is still alive, I think that he would learn that bravery and the promise of anything isn’t always the best thing if it isn’t use
