One of the most memorable moments I have with my dad and grandpa is every year in mid-March we go snagging for spoonbill. A Spoonbill has no teeth and uses their bill to sift through the mud on the bottom of the river. So you don’t use bait, you use 3 large hooks and large sinkers. Then use a pulling motion to “snag” the fish on the bottom of the river. …show more content…
My dad takes the pole out of my hand and began to pull trying to get it off of what we thought was a log. But then it began to rise from the bottom of the river. He quickly hands me the pole back and I begin to reel this fish in. Remember I was 8 years old and my 75 lbs soaking wet. So my dad has his arms around me making sure I don’t fall out of the boat. I keep reeling in this fish and the other fishermen around us stop fishing and begin to look at our boat and me.This monster finally comes to the surface of the water, and it was HUGE!!
My dad and grandpa are going crazy, they are trying to get this fish in the boat. Once they finally do, my dad finally stands the fish up beside me; it’s literally taller than I was and weighed just as much as I did at the time. The other fishermen that have stopped begin to clap and cheer. Honestly, I have never seen anything like it. I saw how excited my dad and my grandpa were. It made me feel like I was a princess or something.
My dad and grandpa got it all on video. This is my absolute favorite memory of my dad and grandpa together they told that story every chance they could. That video has been played dozens of times, and we still watch it to this
