Analysis Of Inside The Mind Of A Master Procrastination

In the TED Talk, “Inside The Mind of a Master Procrastinator” by Tim Urban he enthusiastically explains the mind of a procrastinator and why we procrastinate. For this essay, the main topic is whether procrastinating is natural, if we naturally learn about procrastinating from other people or if it’s embedded in us from the start. I believe that procrastination is natural in a way that we learn about from watching other people and from ourselves. For example, when I first came to Arrowhead I wasn’t used to the teachers not accepting late work, I would sometimes turn in late work in middle school and this change made me even more “lazier” than before. Now let me say that those were probably the worst type of essays I have ever written in my entire life and being forced to do something that isn’t really fun makes me want to put it off even more. I learned to procrastinate from my friends that were around me, I would rather go home and play video games or show them funny videos of cats getting scared over cucumbers. See? Getting off topic again! There’s a reason as to how we procrastinate though and one of them is because we may not think that it’ll come out right so we give up, just …show more content…
I can see where they’re coming from because some people believe that it’s embedded in our genes. Something that we don’t learn but already do from the start, but then there’s evidence such as from Marano (2016) et. al, “Procrastinators are made not born. Procrastination is learned in the family milieu, but not directly.” There are some people that I know when I first came to Arrowhead that always focused prioritized their work first rather than anything else. Maybe they grew up differently than me and that’s how they’ve become so focused on what’s important first rather than giving up. I used to be like that until things became harder, or is that just another excuse for me to

My purpose for managing my time was so I would do better this semester in school without becoming stressed. I wanted to get ahead in my work because I had a tendency to procrastinate on my school work. In the article “Dynamic Interplay of Depression, Perfectionism and Self-Regulation on Procrastination by Ozera, O’Callaghanb, Bokszczaninc, Edererd and Essaub stated that there is a relationship between not being self- regulated and procrastinating (2014). I feel like I can relate this because I normally make excuses when it comes to doing homework so I don’t have to do it and then put it off right before it’s due. They also said that perfectionism leads to depression but the person has such high standards that they put off the assignment (2014).…

Procrastination is something that not just myself, but numerous people struggle with. Throughout this year, I have been in many situations where I have procrastinated multiple things, most of which is homework assignments, projects, and studying. I constantly would make an excuse for why I couldn’t get an assignment done prior to the night before. When in actuality, I had no excuse to not have a project completed at least a week in advance, before the due date. Dan Ariely wrote “ We have problems with self-control, related to immediate and delayed gratification, no doubt there. But each of the problems we face has potential self- control mechanisms, as well” (146). This means that all of us deal with problems with procrastination, but it can be for different reasons. Hamlet struggled on whether to kill himself or to act and get revenge on his father's murder. If he had thought logically for a little, then acted then he would of been better off, but instead he waited forever on deciding what to do and it cost him his…

I, for example, procrastinate because I get distracted. Home has a host of distractions such as TV, my bed, computers, and family which I cannot resist. Whenever I am at home, my distraction is a cue, which makes me “go in automatic mode” and start procrastinating (19). Indeed, since my cue is discretion, I ought to pick something else.…

Life is an everlasting journey of growth and development. In order to grow we must first admit to our faults, and stop engaging in behaviors that hinder us from becoming a better version of ourselves. Self- destructive tendencies plagues our society, and it’s easy to become discouraged by the hate and malicious behaviors inflicted on civilians from law enforcement officers. The mass media only covers half of the story, and the likelihood of the story being the truth, is slim to none. Ever since I could remember, I have always had a passion for helping others.…
