A Marching Band Analysis

One of the generalities about the band is that we are ambitious towards reaching goals yet lackadaisical towards giving the necessary work. We hope to have a productive rehearsal, yet talk for most of its duration. People, thinking they are leaders, yell for everyone to “help the pit!” yet do not help them themselves. As a band, we expect others to accomplish our goals for us. We assume that someone else is going to play loud enough to cover for our own lack of sound. We assume that the effort around us somehow combines to something so great, our own effort is not needed. We assume that our director’s advice is for everyone else so that we do not have to take it. The reality, however, is quite the contrary. In a marching band, the cliché “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link” manifests itself. In everything we do, we must wait on the last individual to be ready, who waits on everyone else. We assume that if we are not last, we are not slowing down the rehearsal when in reality, when you are …show more content…
We are constantly trying to live up to what we think we are, yet do not care enough to be that good. We seek to be a positive influence on the community, yet volunteer as little as possible. In everything we seek to accomplish, we never achieve complete success. We absolutely despise nearly every practice and performance of the band, yet have the utmost conviction that we love band. We give up time, energy, money and sleep for the band and convince ourselves that the outcome pays off. We give up so much out of the desire to improve, yet have no idea why we want to improve. This then is why we have what we have. We want an incredible outcome, but without a clear motivation, that outcome is unreachable. Yet without motivation we act as though we have it. And through this acting, the motivation becomes almost real and drives us forwards until we find that

If anderson makes a mistake it can look like a jumbled mess. It is crucial that everyone learn there spot, and that everyone is at our practices. After every practice everyone goes up to the field and we all talk about what we need to improve on, and what we did a good job on. After band camp, and school rolls around we usually practice four days a week from when school lets out till five in the evening. Before practice ends we all get into our set position (which is feet together, body strong, arms to the side, and head high) the field commander ask us “what days are these” and we reply back in a strong, stern loud voice, “The best days of our lives sir!” There has never been a practice where we do not do this at the…

Rubbing Off in the 110 I’ve always been involved with marching band most of my time in school starting in 5th grade. I fell in love with it. I consider marching band an art form. The band marches in many different designs or a patterns on the field while playing music, and for the Marching 110, they perform a dance at the end. Within the EMCC Mighty Lion Band, some problems that bother me the most are people's attitudes, discipline, and careless people. People’s attitude can really get everyone upset or excited. We have more depressing practices than we have energetic practices because getting yelled at does not get everyone in a fantastic mood, and this is a huge problem. I signed up to have a good time while doing something I love.…

Music is the universal language, and my duty as a devoted violinist is to convey my message of passion through every bow stroke. Whenever I participate in an ensemble, whether it be the SCHS Chamber Orchestra or YOPW’s Youth Symphony Orchestra, I enter into a haven in which the excess worries of everyday life wither away, and all that stands is the music before me. With the chance to exhibit and further develop my leadership skills as section leader and assistant concert mistress, I set the example for my fellow musicians by expressing true musicianship to fulfill my duty to the ensemble and execute a successful performance. Life is an orchestrated ensemble composed of varying styles and ever-changing tempos, and I believe that my ability…

Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…

To truly make the Leander band the best band and a close family we need to have a strong leader group and those who don’t gain the title still need to be strong leaders in any way they can. We all need to be willing to do what it takes to better our band program and not worry about doing extra work but knowing that every minute we put into the band program is for the better. Just like during the video that was shown during leadership preparations, if the leadership team is not strong and we don’t trust each other we won’t be able to achieve our full potential. Also we need to have a good relationship between the band directors and the students much like between the leaders and each other. While we all get along fine I feel like the band program…

I rewarded the members who had shown the most dedication or improvement during a one week period of rehearsals with a bag containing goodies. This was a tradition for the marching band, one that the past leaders had neglected to follow. I felt that this tradition should not be pushed aside, especially since it helped to encourage success and effort. With this in mind, I gave the section what they wanted. All they looked for was someone to follow and trust.…
