Leadership is important in every aspect of life. Society is full of leaders, both good and bad; depending on perception. Leader ship is defined as the practice of influencing people, ethically with morals and values, intending to produce change. Leadership is vital for effective problem solving. A leader demands and receives respect from his or her followers. Leadership has no rank. Common traits possessed by leaders are knowledge, wisdom, courage, professionalism, integrity, and responsibility. Leaders also possess power, and with power, they have the ability to influence and inspire.
A good leader also has the ability to follow. A courageous follower maximizes the value of themselves, shows support in tough times, speaks out when things are not right, provides ideas and alternatives, and in turn is seen as a leader. Humans are naturally concerned about things; leaders have the ability to influence over certain circumstances. “A Circle of Concern encompasses the wide range of concerns we have, such as our health, our children, problems at work, the amount of government borrowing, or the threat of war. A Circle of Influence encompasses those concerns that we can do something about. They are concerns that we have some control over” (Covey, 1989).

The approach she always took when teaching me something new, and or disciplining me for something I did wrong was a professional and one that incorporated ethical values. She always explained what I did wrong, for me to realize, before giving me advice for next time. She knew the longevity of my stay at the business was going to be short, because I wanted to get into law enforcement, however she always strived to make me a better individual and teach me things that would be useful in any position I work.
