The hanging bench in one of the neighborhood houses moves and produces noises causing the children to stay still and make their actions quick and as quietly as possible. The creaking sounds of the bench suggest the loneliness and quietness of the neighborhood. The creaking sound of the backyard door influences the horrific tone in a way that everything around the characters stops and focuses on that one object. The door creaking changes the way that the viewer looks at the scene ahead of them, the children start to look worried and frightened that they will not make it to the other side of the door. The sound effects of a cartoon xylophone were used almost like pointing out musically that the children are sneaking up on the Boo Radley house along with some cricket sounds illustrating that the mood of the scene is lonesome. A close-up of Scouts face is made stating the fact that she is scared and surprised by a shadow that is shown moving towards Jem. The fear in her face is evident and very well depicted with heavy breathing and an exclamation. The cut technique is used to increase the excitement that the different dreadful scenes are bringing to the viewer. From Scouts face to Jem’s reaction, to Dills way of covering his face the viewer can portray the different emotions that are going throughout the minds of the children. A long-shot technique is used when Jem runs from the Radley house with the others behind showing the distance that they had traveled and the way that they were distancing themselves from their previous destination. The children of Maycomb are less significant to the scene than the Radley place making them look vulnerable to the viewers. In the scene there is a shot of the children where the camera is high- shooting down, this gives the viewer the idea that the children are smaller and helpless, and in some ways that is true because they are doing something that they are not supposed to be doing which makes this scene much more intense. Medium shots were used in this scene causing the viewer to know the relationship that Scout and Jem have.
