entry 1 the major people in a long way gone include ishmael beah who is the protagonist of the book and through the book he is running from soldiers but eventually he becomes a soldier when he cannot escape them.
junior is ishmael's brother who plays a major role in how ishmael acts as a soldier even though junior and ishmael were separated. for example when ishmael was going to reunite with his family just before he got there it was burned down causing ishmael to want to avenge his brother. Esther is a nurse at the rehab and has basically rehabilitated ishmael’s emotional outlook on the war. she has done this by bringing him back to his childhood through music and getting him to write down his feelings when …show more content…
then the lieutenant called them over and gave them guns ammo and a white pill that was supposed to boost their energy.the boys then go to the forest where they fight rebels and he killed one but two of his friends were shot and killed musa and josiah. after witnessing their deaths ishmael fights harder and feels nothing towards the rebels.
in chapter 14 ishmael begins relying on drugs he smokes weed does pills and snorts brown brown. the group he is with watches rambo and captures villages and force young boys to join them. they get supplies and food from the villages they capture and force the women to carry the supplies back to base. one day ishmael and few other boys had been chosen to participate in a contest where they had to slit the throat of a prisoner the quickest to be promoted. ishmael won and was promoted to junior lieutenant. in chapter 15 ishmael commads a small group and the story jumps to when he is 15. ishmael goes back to base to visit when UNICEF arrived and hes and some other people where picked out to go with them. lutenit only said you have servered the brotherhood and country well. the boys are taken to a rehab in freetown. in the rehab they see rebels and freak out when mambu takes a mps gun and starts shooting rebels 6 people are killed before the fight is over.the remaing boys who were in the military are take to benin home a
