ESSAY II- A Literary Analysis
Dad’s making a difference. There’s nothing more like a father and son relationship. Although, it’s a different type of bond of friendship that they can have with anyone else, that helps them shape them into the person they’re meant to be; and they’ll never have to look up to anyone else but him. In these short stories, one of the most common similarities they share with one another is that they’re both being told from the first person point of view, as they are describing their journeys with their fathers and getting the chance to reconnected with them one last chance. In Powder, by Tobias Wolff, the story is being told from the first person point of view throughout his teenage son and the way he sees things. As they begin their trip to Mount Baker a day before Christmas, as his son is describing his journey along the way. We’re able to tell from the reading the passage that his parents are divorce due to the fact, that he never had the ideal relationship with his father as he hopes it would be; which is another similarity Powder shares with Reunion. Nationwide across the United States each and every parent has or had arguments with their kids just about anything and anywhere. Therefore, arguments are extremely terrible throughout their relationship and key is to bring them closer as they never been before. In the short story, Reunion all of their conflicts seemed to happen when his father seems to be in a rush to catch his next train, in a way is similar to Powder, which is demonstrates how both of their parents seemed to be in a rush and want everything done quickly and fast. Unlike Reunion, though they’re in a rush to catch his father’s next train stop they decided to stop by and every New York restaurant around town. On behalf of Charlie getting to spend some quality with his father in the city he’s enjoying all the fun and games but he’s a bit concern with his father’s behavior more than anything, he’s being rude to every waiter they had to dine in and is making them feel uncomfortable as their doing their job, as Charlie’s father shouts at the waiters, “ Garon! Cameriere! You!” and states the restaurant seems to be out of place. Therefore, Charlie believes that is father is either drunk or extremely disrespectful towards anyone he has ever encounter.
