Personal Narrative: A Career In The Field Of Social Work

Pursing a life and career in the field of social work has been a journey that was completely unimaginable to me upon starting this path. This enduring pursuit has led me through personal growth and change as well as self-reflection that surprises me to this day. When I think about Social Work, I consider the time spent bullied during my adolescent years, due to a facial impairment in which has humbled me to understand that there are luxuries in misfortune. We often go through life and allow what hurts us, to shape us for the future. During the course of growing up, I had to understand, that as a young black female, I had more to offer in life then that of just a sad background of being bullied. I was determined to be involved in my community as much as possible working as an after school counselor, dance teacher, and other odd end jobs, teaching the new generation that there is a hidden gem within them, and that would be their strength in realizing that they are more than what someone …show more content…
As an executive board member, I work hard and diligently in helping my organization maintain its mission statement in all programs and community services initiatives.
