Food is a fundamental and an ineluctable element of my life, which I am incapable of surviving without its support. I consume a good amount of food on a daily basis to fulfill the nutrition and vitamin needs for my body. However, food contributes so much more beyond being a primary necessity for my life. I was born and raised in China and immigrated to the United States at the age of thirteen. As a result of mainly eating Chinese cuisine, especially white rice on a daily basis for over ten years, I have gained a special feeling of it. From my personal perspective, white rice can further symbolize my Chinese identity. Nevertheless, I have also adapted to the American cuisine with my years of living in this country. For me, meanwhile eating my own Chinese traditional food gives me the sense of comfort and reduces my deep homesickness; eating American food along with it can bring me happiness and express of who I truly am.
The white rice itself has meanings associated with it when it provides the important connection with my own ethnic background. My type of comfort food is definitely white rice. It is a healthy food source that falls in the vegetable

Harris, Collard green was not mainly a kind of vegetable, yet it represented the author's ethnic background. Throughout the article, Harris introduced her grandmother to the readers, and most importantly, the White southern taste greens made by her grandma Harris. She implied, "Grandma's taste of her southern home marked me for life" (Harris 107). Grandma Harris' own tradition way of preparing the green has influenced Harris to recognize and value her identity as an African American. Collard green was the symbol of her blackness. It delivers Harris a sense of belonging that I could profoundly correlate to her when I eat white rice. I totally agreed with Harris' point of view with the fact that collard green could tightly connect with her
