There are many people living across the world seeking refuge from war and persecution. America prides itself on being the “home of the free and the brave,” yet we often do not reach out to share our freedom with those being persecuted. This is usually due to the fear that dangerous people, including terrorists, are among those seeking refuge. This fear is often not grounded in facts, and is exists solely to prevent assistance and refuge for being given. Another issue with our past and present policies is the singling out of certain demographics and instating harsh immigration laws onto them. This has happened to China in the past, and in currently happening to Mexico and even more recently to these several middle eastern and heavily muslim countries: Iran, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya. While some feel that a temporary ban on immigration from certain countries is important in order to prevent the entrance of potential terrorists into the U.S., others feel quite differently. America is known for being a “land of opportunity.” A country that is open to people of all religions, races, and nationalities. Placing a ban on immigration for certain people would maim the United States’ reputation as a welcoming country, that allows people from all over the world to pursue their dreams. If America is to stay true to the principals of its founders, immigrants should continue to be allowed into the country, and allowed opportunity, regardless of where they come
