I don’t think community service should be mandatory for graduation. That’s not what school is for, or at least it wasn’t what school was for. It has become a holding pen for the disenfranchised. It is little more than a vortex of undue stress for those who believe it gets them somewhere in life, in addition to being a pain in my ass. If I, however, were forced to perform community service under penalty of not graduating, I’d gladly do it, not because I want to graduate, but because then at least my years devoted to high school will have some impact and significance relative to the useless hours I burn dying a slow emotional death. …show more content…
True education is what makes democracies work to the advantage of the people. All else are distractions. I will not help to hinder the youth’s insight. I’ve got the conscience of a Catholic, though, so I feel compelled to help people regardless. I am decadent, I am a sinner, but I am no reprobate, I am not a cruel man, nor some self-serving sociopath. That said; I think a nice community service for a piece of pusillanimous slime such as myself would be to pay back society in blood.
