he resided there with his parents and siblings until 1938, when his parent’s had the opportunity to rent home in Long Beach, CA. McBride attended Roosevelt elementary, Franklin and Long Beach Poly High School. After graduation from high school McBride attended Long Beach College and transferred to Cal-State Long Beach, however, before he could attend Cal- State University Long Beach he was drafted in 1961 into The United States Army. The 1960’s were a significant era several historical events took place such as, the March from Selma to Montgomery, Civil Rights Movement, Civil Rights Act 1964 voted into law, Voting Rights Act passed, Thurgood Marshall first African American Supreme Court Justice appointed, Martin Luther King Jr., President John F. Kennedy and President elect Robert Kennedy were all assassinated. While working full-time McBride returned to Cal-State University as a part-time student in 19 McBride received his master’s degree from Cal State University Long Beach. Retired from The Long Beach Naval Shipyard after 35 years of service.
In 2007 Ernest childhood home was declared a historical landmark, In addition to the historical landmark designation of his home, Long Beach 's Ernest S. McBride Sr. High School, Ernest McBride Skate Park, and Ernest McBride community center are all named in his honor of his father

Three months after the start of his job he was summoned to the sergeant’s office by escort, and told due to his outstanding work he was being transferred to an office job which was the equivalent of a promotion. At that time he was asked to surrender his security clearance badge and given the rest of the day off. After pondering as to why his security clearance had been revoked McBride decided to seek an explanation from his sergeant. Ernest sergeant was unable to give him a reasonable explanation for the revocation. McBride decided to decline the office position and wanted to be reinstated to his previous position. McBride sergeant explained to him that he did not have the authority to reinstate him. McBride requested to speak with attorney general. However, the sergeant told him he would arrange the meeting and let him know the date. McBride responded I want to speak with attorney general now, Ernest sergeant obliged him and he was escorted up stairs to the attorney generals office. The attorney general explained he was not in charge of security and referred him to the Attorney general that was in charge of security. The meeting proved to be worthless; although the attorney general was a high ranking official he could not offer an explanation for the change in his position or the revocation of his security clearance.
