Personal Narrative: An Interview With Felicia Smith

Improved Essays
I complete my interviewed with Felicia Smith. Both of us agreed to meet on a Friday inside the library. Before the interview, I was little nervous because I was not sure what to ask. I thought it was going to be awkward talking to someone about their life experience. Interviewing a peer about her life experience was a very unlike for me, because it was my first time ever interviewing someone else. It is easier to just talk to someone about their personal life than to ask them certain type of questions. Begging of the interview, we started our conversation with introducing our self to each other. I asked Felicia to tell me basic information about herself. She told me her name, age, relationship status and such. When she told me she was 44 years …show more content…
I began asking about her husband and her marriage. She told me the story of how she met her husband. The story was very sweet and simple, it made me smile. Talking about her marriage, husband, and her kids was my favorite part about the interview because we got to talk about a lot of personal things. I wanted to know from her point of view what marriage looks like. She told me marriage is great, but it takes a lot of work. She has been married for a long time and they been happy since they met each other. Of course, a lot of couples have ups and down she said, but you have to work things out in a …show more content…
I am glad that I choose this topic because it was something that I would’ve never done. I think it was enthralling to hear and feel someone else life story. I learned a lot of things from Felicia and I hope one day I will be as strong as Felicia is today. She has gone through everything, from getting pregnant at a very young age to finding the light of god and the love of her life. I think she is a very strong person from inside and outside. She has gone throw a lot in her life but she is always happy. She always has a smile on her face. The best thing about her is that she can talk to you about anything and I think she is the best person to talk to if you’re feeling sad. After talking to her she gives me the motherly vibe. She is so generous, kind and caring. One of the key aspect of this interview to me was that Felicia a full time student working to get two different bachelor degree, on top of that she is an employee, mother of two young boys and a wife. I do not know how she handle all these things all together. If I was on her place I do not think I can do all these things. I am thrilled from hearing her story. I am very happy that I got a chance to interview Felicia, she tough me that no matter what happens in life you should always stay happy, god will always be there for you even if nobody else is. After our interview was over she showed me pictures of her family (both of her son and husband). Which was so nice

I could tell how invested she becomes in her clients and really wants them to accomplish their goals. I am currently in a research lab with Doctor Abby Reitman here at Old Dominion University and our research focus in on alcohol abuse and I am also certified in alcohol intervention. This interview just encouraged me to continue to strive to help people who are at their worse. My ultimate career goal is to be a guidance counselor and I feel that is important to become informed of what substance abuse looks like so that in the case I come across a child who perhaps is struggling in school because they have a parent that abuses substances I would be able to talk to the child and hopefully recognize the problem right away. Understanding those who are struggling with substance abuse is also important because substance abuse can effect so many other psychological…

In the discombobulation of day to day life, all types of people are going to try to knock you down. This hardship was experienced personally by Brenda Roza as she realized that “there may not be that person next to you that's going to speak up for you”. There is no reason for strangers being malicious, to try to knock other people down when they’re not even known to you. Regardless, it is imperative that you are able to defend yourself- just as Brenda Roza did. Having been told throughout her entire life that she couldn’t do certain things, Brenda thought that that being a successful person might be beyond reach to her - impossible.…

When I first learned of this assignment my first thought was to interview my mom. She is the one person in my life I am closest to. Since we are only twenty three years apart, I thought it would be best to focus on her life up to the point where she decided to have kids. Though I knew most of what she told me it was still nice to just sit and talk about her life experiences. My mother was born to older parents and was the youngest of three children.…

The Interview The interview process went well. Even though I am familiar with this family, I still conducted the interview professionally. I started out by stating my name, that I am a Bachelor of Nursing Student and that the purpose of the interview is to learn more about the family and that everything discussed will be confidential. I began by asking Melissa questions on the structure and composition of her family, and I drew out a rough draft of a genogram as she was answering my questions and providing me with information.…
