Loretta Frank was born September 27, 1927, and is currently 88 years old. She grew up in Euclid Ohio. When she was a kid she attended a catholic school. Her teachers were nuns, who wore long black dress like clothes with a white collar that covered their heads called Habits. Schooling back then was much different. The nuns were very strict. Loretta remembers when a student did something wrong the nuns would have a ruler and hit them on the knuckles. Since Loretta went to a catholic school church was a huge deal. Loretta had to go to church every sunday with her family. Since no one in her family had a car, they had to walk or ride the city bus. Loretta knew how to play the spanish guitar. It was much smaller than a normal guitar but bigger then a ukulele. Also dancing back then was a lot different then today 's dance. Loretta 's favorite dance was the jitterbug. There was not a lot of things to do for fun back then, Loretta and her friends had to make up their own. Some of the things they did for fun was hopscotch, roller skating, and jacks. Farming also was a big thing when Loretta was younger. That 's how they got food. Her father had a hug garden and had many farm animals. Everyday before and after school Loretta had to go out to the farm and milk the cow to get milk for the rest and the following day. Her mother cleaned the wealthy citizens houses to get money to pay for clothes. The big fashion for women back then was peddle pushers. These are calf high pants that came up over your belly button. The great depression happened from 1929 to 1939. Loretta remembers that this caused many people to lose their jobs. This caused people and families to become very poor, forcing families to move out of their homes and move out to farms. Not everything that came from this was bad. Loretta remembers that because of the great depression and because they didn 't have much, this caused kids to be more appreciative of the things they did have. This did not deny that she felt cheated because the things they got were not new. The clothes they got were hand-me-down, the toys she got were fixed broken ones. Because Loretta grew up with little money, this caused her to bargain shop and save instead of spend money as she grew older. She knew how to fix things instead of throwing them out and just buying something new. The great depression allowed Loretta and her family to become very close because they all lived in the same community. This also made everyone very friendly with each other. If Loretta or someone was walking down the street they would stop to talk to everyone, wave at anyone they walk past. The great depression impacted Loretta very much. Another historical event that Loretta talked about was World War Two. The war started right after the great depression ended. Loretta says that since the war happened many people got their jobs back and got to move back
