Emilia Dancelli's Narrative Essay

Great Essays
Emilia Dancelli had been rehearsing for approximately six and a half hours and was, at this point, pushing herself far past the limit of even her (in her girlfriend Rebekah 's opinion) ridiculous endurance. She had a competition in five weeks, an audition for the Royal Ballet Company in ten, and an interview/audition with the English National Ballet in twelve. Rebekah had barely seen her for the last couple of weeks despite sharing a flat (and a bed) and was, frankly, starting to worry.
Today, though, was the last straw. Emilia had been in the studio nearly constantly for the past week and a half without a single day off, and when Rebekah had seen her that morning she 'd looked thinner than usual, with dark circles under her eyes and shaking

Rebekah shifted Emilia’s legs out of her lap and scooted around to sit by her head instead.
“Sweetheart, wake up so I can get you home.”
“J’suis… mmm, I’m awake...”
“No, you’re not. Come on, love.” Rebekah helped her sit up, rubbing her back to wake her up a bit.
"J 'veux pas..." Emilia curled into Rebekah, burying her face in her neck.
"Yeah, I know, you 're worn out. Let 's go home."

Emilia made a disgruntled sound, but seemed to wake up enough to stuff her feet unceremoniously into her shoes. "You 're a terrible bully, did you know?"
"Oh yeah," Rebekah agreed sarcastically, steering Emilia out of the studio and onto the pavement to hail a cab. "I 'm just awful, making sure you eat and rest and take care of

The cold air outside seemed to have woken her up a bit, which was good -- it meant that Rebekah would be more likely to be able to get her to eat a bit more.
“No, you don’t. You dragged me to The Sleeping Beauty for your birthday last year, and were on the edge of your seat the whole time. I 'm not even sure you breathed," Rebekah replied, smiling fondly at the memory of how excited Emilia had been.
Emilia looked like she wanted to protest, but before she got the chance they were upstairs and Rebekah had chivvied her into the kitchen and sat her in a chair. “I made soup,” Rebekah said, pulling bowls out of the cupboard and setting them on the counter. “And you’re having some before you have a nap.”
“Is it –?”
“Emilia, one bowl of soup isn’t going to hurt you, no matter how many calories are in it.” Rebekah interrupted. It wasn 't often that her girlfriend got fussy about what she would and wouldn 't eat to keep from gaining weight -- she had a ridiculous sweet tooth -- but it happened occasionally before a competition. Rebekah suspected that it was nerves, but didn 't dare bring it
