4000 children across the globe will die today due to poor sanitation. Around one in ten of the world’s population have no choice but to collect water from wherever possible, whether it’s a polluted pond or an exclusive water pump. Just think about how many of us go home and instantly have access to clean water without any limitation. Little things like this we take for granted. I believe that as a school Water Aid should be a focal charity that we cooperate with.
Water Aid works particularly on the WASH system: water, sanitation and hygiene.

You wake up, pull yourself out of bed, have a bit of breakfast, run for the bus to school and complain about being tired. Now picture waking up at 5:00 am every morning to walk a mile to collect three ten litre cans of water and then trek home again. Sounds dreadful? Well, that’s exactly what Howard, from Bokola Village in Uganda has to do every single day. He is only 11 years old, and ever since the death of his father 5 years ago, when Howard was just 6 years old he has had to travel miles to collect water and provide for his mother and 2 younger sisters. With donations people have made to Water Aid, the charity has been able to construct water wells and pumps in the places where people need it most, like Howard’s village and many

Early pioneers such as Edwin Chadwick and Lemuel Shattuck helped to improve sanitation and health conditions for our world today. However, public health is often taken for granted, especially in the United States, as many Americans do not realize that one could not always turn on the kitchen sink and have clear, clean, running water and trash service was not always available. In addition, many people are unaware that there are still many unfortunate people today in other parts of the globe who unfortunately still have never had the opportunity to experience these modern conveniences. Today, the World Health Organization seeks to improve these conditions as it has adopted the ongoing mission of expanding the efforts of Chadwick and Shattuck…

Although the concept of Playpumps was idyllic in theory, its application was sabotaged by the strategy adopted by Playpumps International. Along with the technology, the focus was flawed: despite being a humanitarian project, there was greater emphasis on pleasing donors and meeting ambitious targets for glory, than supplying water to impoverished communities. It is important to understand that Playpumps are only one solution amongst a myriad of other water supply systems, and careful assessment is required to identify which combination of these solutions is appropriate for each individual community. Therefore, a change in priority and management is necessary to organise this project more effectively, in areas of administration, preparation, design, installation and maintenance. ADMINISTRATION:…

“Worldwide, the consumption of water is doubling every 20 years”. For Canada this may not seem like a problem, but for other countries it is. I am lucky to be able to live in a country where I can go to my sink and grab a glass of water, knowing that it’s safe to drink. Since we are so privileged, we often forget about others who aren’t as privilege and often take advantage of our easy access to water. This being running the shower too long, leaving our sprinklers on and whatever else that uses large consumptions of water.…
