A Horrible Virus Monologue

I stood there as the sweat ran down my palms, I looked out the lightly tinted windows from my classroom. I could see my pale skin, shaking, watching drops of sweat hit the floor. My honey-colored eyes turned dark as a marble. I watched every cop frozen with unexplainable fear in their eyes. There they stood, stiff and surrounding our school like scavenging vultures. Camouflaged in navy war-gear, masked with glissing plastic from head to toe.
“What were they afraid of?”
"Everyone, EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! The lunch ladies, Ms. C the pre-Cal teacher, and my fellow classmate Santana have all been infected by a horrible virus. People across the nation claim this virus is what many feared and thought would never happen... Zombies! Lock the door

“This might be our last…” (mic disconnects) camera drops and everyone starts running. I could feel the adrenalin rushing through my body as if I took a dose of a hard drug and I felt the blood in my veins move rapidly through every inch of my body. Instantly our hearts were filled with chaos. Everyone does the complete opposite as instructed and they start running through the halls with terror and uncontrollable screaming. My eyes swelled with tears. My best friend, how could this be Santana being infected? Memories fogged my mind. Once Santana grabbed me by the hand and promised me she’d never leave my side. Not only was she my best friend, I loved her like a sister. Now, she was gone. Forever. Communication, along with touch, have always comforted me. Maybe it was because I was so young. Now her comfort only lingered in my thoughts. I have to think,”Liz think!” My bag can only hold 5 things. I automatically tear the emergency map off the classroom wall. I heard the sound of tearing flesh coming from the hallways. My body squirmed. I started to breath slowly my fingers rubbed against each other releasing a bit of my stress. I could not let my thoughts overwhelm my mind, I could not let my emotions

Title: Virals Author: Kathy Reichs Text type: Novel Name: Sharon Louie I admired the character Victoria Brennan in the novel Virals written by Kathy Reichs because Victoria was a brave character who showed she was willing to risk her life to save others “I’m getting Coop out of here”. Victoria reminds me there is always someone who will put others first rather than themselves in this world. An example of when Victoria was brave was when she decided to save Coop stuck in a ten feet pit by abseiling down with the vines as a harness knowing she could injure herself while doing so. “I dropped to my stomach, grabbed a ropey vine, swung my legs over the rim of the shaft, and braced my feet against the wall.…

The book I chose to read and write a report on was the novel The Panic Virus: A True Story of Medicine, Science, and Fear by Seth Mnookin. The nonfiction story documents how fear has caused a panic among parents specifically of autistic children. Looking for an explanation, sometimes parents take correlation of some two events and assume causation. Mnookin takes a look at how the anti-vaccine movement threatens us all and how illogical fear is the driving force behind it.…

The Enemy, one of the most darkest young adult literature I have ever read. No matter what chapter I’m in, there’s always seems to be a zombie somewhere within the pages. If I were to use one word to describe this novel, it would be “gruesome.” Seriously, a mysterious virus that has no known cure to counter it turned all adults into child-eating zombies. Children and teens that aren’t over the age of 16 are immune to this virus for some reason.…

In the movie and real life the viruses spread rapidly through many means with fomites and humans being the major transporters. Once again the film toppled the apocalypse style movie industry with their immense research and the result is a film that is scientifically accurate and terrifying to the unsuspecting audience. Without the audience doing research into infectious diseases and fomites, the degree of spread and high body count might seem outlandish and that of your typical zombie thriller. However, after seeing the facts behind the scenes, it proves that all of these pieces of the film are believable and a plausible apocalypse…

As I was parked in that seat, going through everything I had done in the past week, nothing I could think of rendered punishable. The door to my right flew open, and out came my high school principal, Mr. White, standing in the doorway, arms crossed, his shadow stretched across the worn gray carpet. “Hello Tyler, please come have a seat in my office.” I walked in, slumped over, and sat in the chair on the other side of his desk. He was a graying, middle-aged man, nice smile, but a mean face.…

I’ve always been the super shy girl; I was the one that was so scared of what people thought about her to the point where she’d hold back her dreams because she was too afraid. Freshman year changed the rest of my life for me. It wasn’t only the eye-opening year where I realized I’m more than my awkwardness; it was the year I did something about it. It was the year that I took the initiative to come crawling out from this outer shell that protected me from the harsh words that this earth has to offer, and I can’t say for a second that I regret it. Through a friend, I found this not-very-well-known business called Evolution Rock School.…
