Today had been long. It was one of those days that Cassie wanted to end with a bear hug from her dad. Her dad was always the person to brighten her day. When she was little, he would feed her popsicles for tender bitten tongues and coax straws filled with bubbles of ginger ale past pale nauseous little lips. His arms were the only place she was willing to sleep; even at thirteen Cassie wished that she still could. Because her daddy gave her medicine and laid her on his chest, so that her head could hear the lullaby of his heart. He’d tell her that love is the strongest magic and that magic is stronger than medicine.That he loves her so much that when he wraps her in his arms, he can pull the sick away.
