Have you ever wondered what a Hero’s Journey was? The hero’s journey is a pattern of narrative by the American scholar Joseph Campbell that appears in drama, storytelling, myth, religious ritual, and psychological development. It describes the typical adventure of the hero figure, the person who goes out and achieves great deeds on behalf of a group or generation. The purpose of a hero’s journey is to show a sequence of events that the hero must overcome in order to answer his/her call to adventure. The first stage is the ordinary world, which is the life of the person before his call to adventure, whenever he/she receives their call to adventure usually they’re separated from their parents or loved ones in order for them to face their journey

Before the hero may cross the threshold he/she must obtain some type of mentor to guide the hero throughout the journey. Then the hero must leave his/her ordinary world with no way back unless finishing their journey. The hero is given some kind of tests to get him/her prepared for the obstacles he will have to face. Once the hero has reached the special world it is mostly known who the allies are, and who the enemies’ are. The hero and newfound allies approach their major challenge in the special world. Then the ordeal happens which is when the hero confronts death or faces his/her greatest fear, out of the moment of death comes in new life, the hero is reborn. “There comes a time, however, when the individual has to become self-reliant and not dependent but himself the authority”. (Campbell) The hero is turned into the authority for his/her own destiny from now on. Next, the hero takes possession of the treasure won by facing death. He was given the call to adventure from R2-D2 when the drone played the hologram of Princess Leia saying, “Help me Obi-Wan, you’re my only hope”. Luke was so curious about who the girl was only later would he find out that’s why he went on the adventure. R2 left to find Obi-Wan to deliver the message, but the droid is intercepted by Luke. Obi- Wan was not too far from R2 though, and he finds Luke and tells him to learn force like his father. Luke decline, because he has to stay another season with his uncle on the farm. When Luke goes home he finds his parents burned alive by the empire. He turns around, goes back to Obi-Wan immediately to accept his call to adventure. Luke and Obi walk into a Mos Eisley pub which is the first time Luke walks into the special world, he is surrounded by villain scum. Luke is tested by the Empire as flees tatooine. Luke’s approach was when the falcon millennium was absorbed into the Death Star because of a tractor beam. Luke’s life or death moment was inside the trash disposal when the monster grabs ahold of him and when the walls cave in, but everyone was okay because R2-D2 saved the day. The reward is the information outline about the Death Star that R2 possess, this is needed in order for the rebels to plan their attack. The road back happens right before the battle when Luke’s meets with his old friend Wedge and they discuss how they’re going to catch up after
