The song A Hazy Shade of Winter, portrays a story, and some examples of literary devices in the song such as, repetition, rhyme, and imagery, help deepen the meaning of the song. The literary devices found in A Hazy Shade of Winter, help the reader understand more clearly what the author, Paul Simon, might of been trying to tell us in his song. Repetition impacts the meaning of the song because after saying the phrase over and over again throughout the song, the reader is able to conclude what the author is trying to interpret. The dialogue in this song represents the author, or the character in the song, questioning himself about the time he wasted in his almost-ending life. Example (1:4) “Time, time, time, see what's become of me, while I look around for my possibilities I was so hard to please”, enhances the meaning of the song, A Hazy Shade of Winter. With this the reader can conclude that maybe the author/narrator was difficult to satisfy when the narrator was not as old, and that now that he's older the author considers what might have happened if he had not been so hard to please.
