A Guilty: A Short Story

Improved Essays
June, 2017, was the day where I got the most scared and guilty in my life. During the moment I liked the fact my friend Jake and I used the habits of mind taking responsible risks, and creating, imagining, and innovating, for corking a bat to make the ball go further. Unfortunately, I wished we used the habit of mind thinking about you thinking while we corked the bat. Although, it was a good idea to make the ball go further by using golf balls, rocks, and paper towels. We should’ve thought about the different outcomes before actually trying it out, or at least use more duct tape. Taking responsible risks are good, but sometimes risks can come at a price, perhaps maybe breaking your best friends house window.

Then, we went upstairs to his room, I brought a nerf gun of my own to use, but you would have to see it to believe it, he had at least 30 nerf guns with at least a thousand bullets. We had our nerf war, but we heard his older brother open the garage coming home from work, so we tipped toed around stealthly like mice to make a fort, and shoot his brother. We always liked to troll his brother. So when he came in we started shooting like crazy, but he rammed right through our fort like a tank, we were pretty sad he wrecked our fort, but it was fun while it lasted. After that we watched TV, mainly Impractical Jokers, then, we went to bed.
We woke up, “why don’t we play some wiffle ball,” suggested Jake.
“Sure,” I replied. So we went outside, we got his friend Luke who lives right across the street. We played with his corked bat that had, it was corked with paper towels. Then, we wanted the ball to go further, so we corked it with golf balls and rocks. Then, we taped the cap on with duct tape. But when we hit the ball… Crack! Crash! We heard a crack but didn't know what happened, but we saw the window. “Uh oh,” i stated.
“We’re in trouble,” said Jake. Jake’s dad came out, he said, “what broke.”
Jake said, “tell him what you did Raynor.” I hesitated.
Uhh, “we kind of broke your window,” I replied. His dad rammed through the door like a rhino filled with rage. Luckily there parents are very nice, and were good friends, I didn't get in trouble but i got

Introduction The American history is full of racial discrimination against the black people. Although, through the 18th century and pass of Civil Right Bill in the nineties, we find endeavors to reduce bias in the society. The reality is otherwise. The matter of the fact is that the article, “A presumption of Guilt” by Bryan Stevenson, highlights the pathetic picture of the American society and its criminal justice system. The central claim of this article is that American police and justice given authorities presume the black young people as surly convicts of crimes.…

Deception is a dangerous thing because while used by people for their own personal advantage it causes others to believe a lie. This concept plays an important part in people’s actions because it tells a lot about who they are as a person. Individuals who are deceiving will go to any length to be satisfied. The role deception plays in “The Pardoner’s Tale” is to communicate that greed is not beneficial and will lead to the death of the church.…

The feeling of guilt can make it very difficult for people to think properly and enjoy their lives during their time of regret. The events that took place during The Crucible by Arthur Miller clearly illustrate guilt as the motivating factor in the many false convictions and deaths of twenty people. The acts of the people of Salem were influenced by the acts of a group of girls lead by Abigail Williams, who would act irrationally and accuse people for witchcraft. Many people were sold by the actions of these girls which ended up causing all of the hangings to occur. After some time people started to believe less and less of what the girls were saying; many of the girls felt guilty and left the town.…

The Vendetta is not an example of a Modern Short Story due to its criteria. There is no emphasis on subtle characterization. The plot of the story is fast paced and has an obvious goal. The author is trying make you anticipate the events that are going to occur, rather than having metaphorical relationships between characters and objects. The fast paced plot is evident when the story said, “One evening, after a quarrel, Antoine Saverini was treacherously slain by a knife-thrust from Nicolas Ravolati, who got away to Sardinia the same night.”…

'Nothing they said in there was true...' was what I told the me inside the mirror while my mind wandered from the mirror where swollen eyes glared back at me to the razor that sat on the bathroom counter. Logically speaking, this wish was a huge mistake, and almost anyone would agree. However, logic was not on my side that day. My internal feelings were what my mind registered, so I placed my hand over the blade's handle while the prior events of the evening rushed over me... Earlier, my siblings and I were hanging out in 'the girls' room'.…

Crime was alive and well in the Victorian era and is still flourishing in modern Britain. These two time periods offer the same ideas in combating crime, but have evolved into two very different ways at addressing it. Also, since the time periods were very unique, they had very different living conditions, which makes the reasons for crimes and the ways to combat them different. As crime evolves so do the police that are in charge of stopping it. Although crime and prevention often change, they do offer some similarities in comparison to the Victorian era and modern Britain.…

Once I arrived, the staff took me through gate after gate until, eventually, we got to the wellness center – the place where you get to meet the patients. According to the innocence project’s official web page, only few studies have revealed that between 2.3% and 5% of all prisoners in the U.S. are innocent, equivalent to 20,000 innocent people; a number that continues to grow with the progression of time (How Many Innocent People). The fact of the matter here is that innocent individuals are paying time that are not meant for them to serve. Time which cannot be refunded, nor compensated for. Another perspective is that, often time prison drastically changes how one lives their life once they are free.
