Regardless the amount of being offered to most Americans, No one will accept the job and rather choose to work at fast food chain or retail than work in the field and get more pay. Most Americans will not challenge themselves to work in the field to gain more skills in agriculture and will let the undocumented do the hard work. Thompson goes for two months immersion to understand the hardship of each undocumented farm workers. He tries to experience what farm workers do in their daily lives. To see what kind of obstacles they have to go through by working in the field. “On my first day I discover that even putting on a lettuce cutter’s uniform is challenging (no fieldworkers, I learn, “pick” lettuce)” (Thompson 82). How can you think Americans can survive in the field if the author itself complains by just putting on a uniform? How hard can that be? Each individual has the capacity of job they can intake in a daily basis whether physically, emotionally or mentally. These kinds of jobs are only ideal for students or part time workers not for people who have families to feed and kids to take care of. Unfortunately these undocumented immigrants accept the job to be able to provide the necessities their families need:
“Wages have been rising some what in response to the demand for laborers (one prominent member of the local growers association tells me average pay is now between $10 and $12 an hour), but its widely assumed that most U.S. Citizens wouldn’t do the work at any price. (Thompson 82)
Mostly undocumented immigrants are the only people that are capable of taking the job for a minimum wage because they have no other options, but to take the opportunity of obtaining a job than being jobless. It is sad that they work so hard and they don’t get the same treatment as other citizens do. Not getting the same benefit that each worker should be
