We are conditioned to believe that criminals have bad morals and bad behavior. It is not really arguable that being a murderer is wrong. However, we can see that the Misfit has a strong and true belief in his moral code, though. We can see that he has no belief in religion. The very idea of religion, in fact, seems to confuse him. He views it as illogical. This stands in contrast to what the grandmother beliefs. However, the grandmother’s hypocrisy in her faith simultaneously stands to back up the beliefs of the Misfit. Furthermore, the Misfit seems to belief that the punishment for a crime is always more than what is actually deserved for the crime.
