Although both stories have lots of symbolism towards the theme, A Good Man Is Hard To Find is a better story because the symbolism shown is more connected to the theme and has a more impactful and straightforward story line.

One of the main characters, Connie, is a young, presumably a teenage girl, that has the concerns of a typical teenager, looks, music, and boys. She is torn in conflict between her and her family, about her sexual appearance, and constantly making fun of her older sister, June. Connie tries to explore her “sexual persona”, and appears to enjoy the fact that boys and men alike, come to find her attractive, but when confronted directly about it, she it torn between how she views herself, in the outside world and how she views herself at home, the inside world. Connie is met with the realization that she isn’t as mature and self-sufficient as she thinks she is, when the other main character, Arnold Friend, confronts her. The main action of the story takes place, at Connie’s house, when Arnold comes over. Arnold is an older, more mature, perhaps evil-suggestive figure, that tries to appeal to Connie by convincing her, that he can take her away from her life as an unhappy teenager as she knows it to be. Arnold, symbolizing an evil figure, throughout his actions and symbolism, approaches Connie, wanting to take her for a ride. And Connie, to her avail, is intrigued, yet afraid, of going with Arnold, not yet understanding her situation. She is curiously inviting herself
