It was very difficult to pick a short story this week. I like all of them. However. the one I chose was Flannery O’Connor “A Good Man is Hard to find”. For starters, the title caught my attention and was eager to find out the details. There are many different elements of literature in the short story like the symbol (the grandmother hat), themes (the definition of a good man), and motif which is used to help the theme. An example of this in the story would be that a good man was easier to come by in the past versus now a days. The symbols in the story the grandmother 's hat, which she wears for the sole motivation behind demonstrating that she is a woman, speaks to her misinformed good code. At the point when the grandma plans for …show more content…
The grandmother tries judge and see who shall receive God’s grace. She deceives her grandchildren, controls her child, and always nags about the deficiency of the present and the power of the past. She has no mindfulness and appears absent to her general surroundings. Sure of her own ethical predominance, the grandma accepts that she is the correct individual to judge the integrity of others. She also thinks that she is the perfect individual to train other individuals on the best way to live their lives. In any case, she herself has a real good shortcoming. She asks the Misfit to pray, for instance, despite the fact that she herself is not able to pray. She alters her opinion about Jesus ' becoming alive once again as she becomes more anxious about what will happen to her. The Misfit, as far as it matters for him, is an unrepentant killer, and he does not care about giving or receiving any grace. In order to know what a motif was I had to research it. The motifs can be seen as a picture, sound, activity or different assumes that have a typical noteworthiness and helps around the advancement of a theme. A motif is a recurring picture, thought or an image that creates or clarifies a subject while a theme is a main thought or

Flannery O’Connor’s short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find” is a story of hypocrisy and irony. O’Connor’s tale of twisted morals and fleeting grasps at old standards takes a family from an innocent trip to Florida to an impending doom laid out before them by the narrator in the first paragraph. The fill of the story is one based on a grandmother’s traditional ways and the conflicting norms of their modern day society. A dying woman’s last attempt at life initially seems valiant, but the 1955 tale brings to light the error in her entire belief system and the proper foundation The Misfit has built his steadfastly on (SparkNotes). The tale brings to light a remorseless view of the world from two different eyes, a hypocritical grandmother and a…

Flannery O’Connors “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” is a story that discusses a grandmother and her family going on a vacation that ultimately ends and their deaths. There deaths were led by the grandmothers’ tendency to not know when to stop talking and from not being able to go with the intentional plans. In a way the story should be titled A Good Woman Is Hard To Find, because the irony of who was really good and who was really bad left the ending with a plot twist. If the grandmother had been a better good woman then the deaths of her and her family probably would have never happened.…

We’ve all probably heard of the saying ‘everybody makes mistakes.’ While we might sometimes find it reassuring in certain situations, it’s never acceptable with murder. Of course, Flannery O’Connor isn’t claiming that everyone’s guilty of homicide; but her short story ‘A Good Man is Hard to Find’ makes it clear that everybody’s guilty of something. This evil tale of a pretentious and self absorbed grandmother’s vacation with her family is steeped in connections to Christian faith, such as Flannery’s thematic emphasis that “All have sinned.” From the beginning, she didn’t want to go to Florida and tries to convince her son Bailey that they should go to Tennessee instead, using the excuse that there is an escaped convict on the loose.…

The grandma appears to regard goodness for the most part as a component of being fair, having great conduct, and originating from a group of the right individuals. The topic of this story shows the unidentifiable meaning of a decent individual. The grandma applies the name "great" self-assertively, obscuring the meaning of a "decent individual" until the name loses its significance totally. The Grandmother, while not knowing Red Sammy very well, labels him…

Stories that are allegorical to me are often the ones that bear the most importance; allegorical stories allow me to insert what I’ve learned from the parameters of the story to apply into my everyday life. Haruki Murakami author of “Chance Traveler” and Benjamin Alire Saenz author of “The Art Of Translation” both authors have similarities in the way they use allegories but they are conveyed in different ways. Murakami and Alire both used what I called in-depth imagery to help the readers see what the authors depicted in the story and wrote explicit details for me to culminate my own interpretation of the morals I received from reading these stories. In literature a motif is a recurring element, theme, idea, subject and or topic that…

How does one see the good or bad in a human being? In Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” the line between these two concepts becomes a blurry combination that lacks true distinction from one over the other. The word good is thrown around all the time, causing its meaning to lessen as the story goes on. By the end of the story, the reader discovers that there is good and bad in everyone. Not one person is one hundred percent bad and neither is one person one hundred percent good.…
