In the short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor ,the author focuses on the theme good vs. evil. There are many different ways the author expresses the theme of good vs. evil in the story. The grandmother is a person who believes in herself as a good individual and the misfit is character who is believed to be evil by society. The grandmother may be perceived a the good character in the story but she had tendencies and ways that are evil and the Misfit is a evil man who has the potential to be a good person. While reading the story I couldn't help but notice between the words good vs. evil the meanings good possible overlap when dealing the characters and characteristics in the story. The theme of good vs. evil when dealing with “ A Good Man Is Hard to Find” is not a plain black and white photo because it had quite a bit of grey areas.
The title “ A Good Man Is Hard to Find” contributes to the theme of good vs. evil. The grandmother is trying to prove at some point …show more content…

The reason behind that is because the good can be found in someone who is evil.For example towards the ending of the story after the Misfit kills the rest of the family he is left with the decision to kill the grandmother or or not. He wasn't always this evil person all his life though. At some point in time he went through something that made him choose the wrong path.The grandmother tried to get him to see things from a positive perspective by suggesting that if he prays to God and believe that he can be forgiven and can see the good in himself. She thinks that this will also help her and keep her alive. The change in her attitude is the fact that she went from thinking that the Misfit was an evil person who can't possibly be good. This was an example of good vs. evil. The grandmother who was supposed to be the good was up against the Misfit who was the evil character, for her
