In life we all strive to be friends with everyone. One of our goals as people is to have no problems with anyone. Unfortunately, we have to face the facts that there will always be someone in life that you will have a conflict with. In the stories “Recitatif” by Toni Morrison, “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” by Flannery O’Connor, “The Yellow Wall-Paper” by Charlotte Perkins Gillman, there are many conflicts that relate to each other. Through character vs. character and character vs. self, we see how these authors were able to develop conflict in these short stories through the connections we see. “Recitatif” is a short story that takes place in a New York orphanage and the two main characters are Twyla and Roberta. In this short story there are many conflicts between the main characters and other characters. One primary conflict is Maggie vs. Gargirls. This conflict develops other conflicts in the story such as Twyla vs. Roberta. “Think we were wrong. I think she could hear and didn 't let on. And it shames me even now to think there was somebody in there after all who heard us call her those names and couldn 't tell on us.” In the short story she yells that Twyla "kicked a poor old black lady when she was down on the ground. […] You kicked a black lady who couldn 't even scream.” Ever since the girls saw what happened to Maggie, they have had conflicts with each other.
