The governor of the western state, Hubert Hopper, has to pick a replacement for the deceased U.S. senator Sam Foley. His boss, Jim Taylor, wants him pick his handpicked stooge quickly while popular committees want to reform. Unable to make up his mind between Taylor's stooge and the reformer, he decides to flip a coin which leads him to chose Jefferson Smith. Smith becomes close with his late father's oldest best friend, Senator Joseph Paine, who has a daughter that immediately grabs his attention. The Washington post label his as an unfit senator that won't do any good.…
She briefly mentions aspects of equality throughout her speech, but the stories and analogies that she uses really drive home her point. Because she is a woman who has experienced discrimination based on gender, she is seen as a credible source. Pointing out the history of gender inequality at the DNC, Richards states, “Twelve years ago Barbara Jordan… made the keynote address to this convention, and two women in a hundred and sixty years is about par for the course.” While equality isn’t the main purpose of her speech, these small acts remind that audience that equality is important, and shouldn’t ever be ignored. As mentioned previously, Richards persona also includes her Democratic identity.…
The U.S. Constitution awards all legislative powers to a bicameral Congress which includes the Senate and the House of Representatives. It was designed to avoid giving too much power to just one branch; a way to maintain balance based on the interest of the states. This new system was created as a way to repair the weak government during the Articles of Confederation. The House is based on population and the Senate is based on state representation. I will discuss how the legislative process differs in the Senate and the House of Representatives as well as state some similarities.…
I really believe that the process of gridlocking can be hugely beneficial when Congress is trying to make a decision. A congressional gridlock has the potential to make the members of Congress reexamine their first vote and completely change their stance on the passing of the law. I understand that it can be frustrating when Congress comes to an impasse, but the reconsideration and deliberation concerning a particular subject couldn't…
In the Film “Waiting for Superman” the representation of schools in America is weighted down greatly by the “bad” or prone to failure schools. The film helps the viewer understand that many educational systems and school districts in America are lacking not only in one area but many, and gives us specific scenarios in which students have been affected. The film contributes a well-rounded view of the Educational problems in America today and ways in which we can help make a change and make sure our future generations are able to have a better experience. The film itself gave great insight on the different day to day problems different families have to deal with in order to give their children a better future.…
I chose the film Gettysburg because it provides a great overview of the battle of Gettysburg. Gettysburg is a 1993 American war film. The film tells the story of the battle between the Union and confederate armies during the Civil War. The movie made sure to capture each day of the battle, which lasted three days. I was kind of confused at first because the film had no clear protagonist and antagonist.…

The immediate consequence of the king’s execution is the creation of the Commonwealth. Indeed, the Rump Parliament, which organized Charles Stuart’s trial, abolished the monarchy with an act passed on the 17th March of 1649 . Two months later, England was proclaimed "Commonwealth and Free State " and became a republic. This parliament was ruled by a group of 41 men and was mainly supported by the army . The principal concerns of those members were "the army, the navy, Ireland, and foreign affairs ".…
Don't you just love being able to debate a topic and ideas in group projects, being able to make your ideas and products better among discussion and deliberation. That is not the case in our very own senate. The filibuster that was once used a very useful tool to create further debating of a bill is now used to prevent the discussion of an idea all together. A creation that was once considered a rare procedure in the Senate has now being used as a standard procedure which is often used to delay the further discussion of a topic.…
Trading Places is a film that starred Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. The film debut was in 1983, and it discussed topics of racism and classism. Using the plot line of a rich white person losing all his fortunes and living like an impoverished black person he then sees the era of his ways. He overcomes his opposition by teaming up with other unfortunate people to help reclaim his riches that he once had in the begging. The film shows us that even though we live in the modern era we still carry the racial stigmas that was placed on people by the many generations that came before us.…

The documentary, Roger and Me, directed, produced, and starred Michael Moore was about his journey to explain what happened to General Motors in Flint, Michigan. The film includes interviews from different people living in Flint that were affected by the closing of the factories and businessmen of General Motors. Moore also shows how Roger Smith, the CEO of General Motors, wouldn’t want to speak about the issue in Flint and how his choices were affected the daily lives of so many families that helped establish his company. Throughout this documentary there were many sociological themes and concepts present. Some include: social class, deviance, and the conflict paradigm.…
The Help “The Help” was a move that took place in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960’s. It was based on discrimination and segregation of Black people. It describes how the Blacks were mistreated due to the color of their skin. It was during the time of the Civil Rights Movement. This movie is an eyeopener to some of the profiling that Black people had to deal with.…
Forrest Gump Forrest Gump is a famous fictional film that documents the life of a simple man who experiences many historical occurrences from the 1950’s to the early 1980’s. Written under the genres of both Drama, Romance and Comedy, it manages to capture the essence of all three (mostly doing its best work between comedy and drama). Its wit and humor will make you laugh while its honesty, tragedy and sentimentality encourage reflection. The movie succeeds not only in content, but execution, pertaining specifically to the special effects artists who were able to place Forrest amidst many historical events and people in various footage.…
